Pipestone Watertown Festival: Take me out to the ballgame

PIPESTONE — The theme for the 23rd annual Pipestone Watertower Festival is “Take me out to the ballgame,” and includes a rededication of Harmon Park. The Pipestone Area Community Foundation (PACF) has completed a $215,000 renovation to the park, which has been a part of Pipestone since 1924.

The theme was chosen to highlight the restoration of the park and ball fields, and those diamonds will be busy this weekend, hosting a Ladies’ Legends softball game, a Men’s Legends softball game and Pipestone Area Schools Alumni softball game.

The fun starts Friday with a street dance on main street. Saturday’s events are numerous and will give everyone a chance to keep busy.

At the courthouse square, an arts and crafts show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a parade begins at 10 a.m.

The car show begins at 11 a.m. and runs through 3 p.m., as do the kid’s inflatables. Horse rides will be given by the 4-H Interstate Exchange those same hours.

At noon, Bruce Weigle will perform original flute music, followed by the parade results, button drawing and mayor awards at 12:30 p.m.

From 1 to 2 p.m., music will be provided by the Cornerstone E-Free Church.

Around the community, the 5K/10K run begins at 7:30 a.m., with the kid’s fun run at 8:45 a.m.

A youth baseball tournament is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a tractor pull begins at 6 p.m.

At Harmon Park, a tennis clinic and exhibition by current and past PAS coaches and stars will run from 3 to 5 p.m., and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament takes place from 4 to 6 p.m.

The Ladies’ Legends softball game starts at 4 p.m., and the Men’s Legends softball game begins at 5 p.m.

There will be a community dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. and the Harmon Park rededication begins at 7 p.m.

A PAS Alumni softball game is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
