In the June 30-July 1 Daily Globe, an advertisement placed by Worthington Public Utilities (WPU) is well worth a bit of extra attention.
Quoting city of Worthington code, it is noted: “Water customers having odd numbered addresses may water only on the odd numbered days of the month and customers with even numbered addresses may only water on the even numbered days.” And: “The odd-even water restrictions are in effect at all times.”
That last bit of information — the restrictions are always in effect — may be news to some in the community. They are, of course, particularly important given the current heat wave/dry spell, which we hope comes to a conclusion before too long.
“Due to the current dry conditions, it has become necessary to remind the residents of Worthington of these restrictions and to enforce them,” the WPU ad also stated. “Violation of these restrictions is a misdemeanor offense and subject to fines or possible disconnection of water service.”
Perhaps one might think that enforcing this ordinance may be difficult, but that’s not really the point. Most critical is that we all do our part to preserve the most precious resource we all have.
