MOUNTAIN LAKE — Even with the recent scorching weather, the Worthington Cubs’ bats could not heat up, as the Cubs were shut out 4-0 Sunday versus Mountain Lake in amateur baseball action.
The Cubs were able to work seven walks, but were only able to muster up two hits on the day. Mitch Jensen went the distance and gave up no earned runs.
Worthington (6-12) will host Milroy Wednesday in the team’s final home game.

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Marcus Schultz got the win on the mound, Blaise Jacobson and Cole Rossow each had two hits and Pat Rients had a home run to lead Jackson (12-4) over Mountain Lake in amateur baseball action Sunday.

HADLEY — ZachBruns pitched all seven innings and struck out four to lead Hadley over Adrian Sunday in amateur baseball action.
Joe Larson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Max Zwart, Jamie Boelter and Sean Solheim each had a hit to lead Hadley (9-11, 8-7).
Cody Kontz had a hit and an RBI and Taylor Klingenberg pitched all six innings and got the loss for Adrian.
Hadley will travel to Windom Tuesday.

Heron Lake 4,
HERON LAKE — Ethan Duffy hurled seven solid innings, and Lucas Knutson delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Heron Lake Lakers to a 4-3 victory over the Jackson Bulls in the opening game of a First Nite League amateur baseball doubleheader at Laker Field Sunday afternoon.
Duffy (six strikeouts, four walks) scattered five hits and allowed just two earned runs, while Jackson’s Tom Hady (three strikeouts, two walks) was also effective in a complete-game effort on the mound.
Marcus Schultz and Blaise Jacobsen each belted an RBI triple to help the Bulls jump out to a 3-0 lead after three innings. Andy Wolf, Ryan Rasche and Caleb Rossow all collected singles for Jackson’s other base hits.
Heron Lake scored three runs in the fourth to tie the game and then took a 4-3 lead in the sixth when Knutson drove in Eric Milbrath with a two-out single to left field. Ben Scheevel (RBI double), Kirk McBreen, Ethan Duffy (double) and Lon Eichenberger also had base hits for the Lakers.

HERON LAKE — Once again receiving a stellar pitching performance and a clutch base hit late in the game, the Heron Lake Lakers rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Fox Lake Foxes in the nightcap of a First Nite League amateur baseball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Laker Field.
Matt Franks (one strikeout, one walk) went the distance for Heron Lake, allowing just two runs on four hits over seven strong innings.
With the bases loaded, no outs and the score tied at two runs apiece in the bottom of the seventh, the Lakers’ Alex Meyer blasted a long RBI single to plate Ethan Duffy with the game-winning run. Tom Albrecht cracked an RBI double earlier in the inning, scoring Ben Scheevel with the tying run as Heron Lake trailed 2-1.
Scheevel singled and scored Heron Lake’s initial run in the first inning, while Lucas Knutson, Eric Milbrath and Ike Rogers (2-for-3) also smacked base hits for the Lakers.
Heron Lake, which is now 11-9 overall and 10-6 in the league, travels to play Fairmont Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.

Wilmont goes 1-1 over the weekend
Wilmont — Wilmont cruised by Milroy Saturday 9-1 and fell to Fairmont 6-1 Sunday.
Justin Saufley got the win on the mound Saturday, striking out seven in seven innings. Nate Stoll had a hit and two RBIs, Steven Kremer, Ryan Swanson, Jesse Teerink and Brandon Schroeder each had two hits and Joe Ahrens had a homer and two RBIs at the plate for Wilmont (14-4).
On Sunday, Adam Diekmann had two hits and an RBI, Tanner Loosbrock had a double and Blake Rogers had a double and two singles to lead Wilmont.
Wilmont will travel to Adrian Wednesday.
