Editorial: Rush's newest nonsense

Truth be told, Rush Limbaugh will almost certainly retain his most loyal legion of followers no matter how outlandish his opinions may be.

That doesn’t mean, however, that his comments should go unnoticed.

Last week, Politico reported, Limbaugh accused Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts of being “run by the American media.” This came in the wake of Roberts’ surprise decision to join the court’s traditionally liberal wing in supporting the upholding of the Affordable Care Act. The decision stunned and angered conservatives across the country, Limbaugh included. “Now the Washington, New York media runs the Supreme Court of the United States. They run the chief justice. ... I can’t tell you how troubling this is,” Limbaugh said. “I’m still a little sick about it, but more than that, I’m just flat-out angry.”

Actually, there are far more legitimate reasons to be angry with Roberts’ decision. Liberals couldn’t believe Roberts’ interpretation of the Commerce Clause in his decision; those on the right saw him as a 21st-century Benedict Arnold. Yet, the GOP may ultimately owe the chief justice a mountain of gratitude if Mitt Romney is elected in November.

As for Limbaugh, his ridiculous ramblings should simply be ignored.
