What qualifications do you have for seeking a county board seat? Having a career as an Insurance Agent/Owner for 31 years gives me the qualifications necessary to seek a County Board seat. A County Commissioner is very similar to being an Insurance Agent. An Insurance Agent represents his policyholders and the company he represents while the County Commissioner represents his constituents and the County of Nobles. The Insurance customer pays a small premium to be sure the company is there in time of need. A constituent pays property taxes to be sure that the County is there in time of need also. Having sat on many City, County, Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureau, King Turkey Day, Economic Development, United Way, Worthington Noon Kiwanis, Church and Fraternal organization boards, many as Chairman. I will use these past and present experiences to serve the County Board seat.
What is your top priority in county government? My top priority in County Government is to hire a new Administrator/Coordinator to oversee all functions of our County Government. Another priority would be to move forward with the new County Library.
Explain ideas you have to address your top priority: My ideas to address these priorities would be to move very cautiously and be very selective in hiring this Administrator/Coordinator. I would assist in promoting a non-profit Library foundation as a vehicle for people to give charitable gifts to the Library for building purposes.
What would you like to see accomplished in the county in the next four years? Accomplishments for Nobles County Government in the next four years would be to have County elected officials, department heads, and all employees of Nobles County to develop team building skills to insure that all involved are pulling in the same productive direction. I would like to see County, City and School District #518 working together to maximize the resources each entity has.
Additional comments: My only additional comment would be that on January 4, 2011, I was sworn in as a County Commissioner for District #4, for a period of four years. Due to redistricting I am forced to run halfway through my original appointment, and I would appreciate the opportunity to continue to move Nobles County forward under the new direction that has been established this past year.
