What qualifications do you have for seeking a county board seat? Presently serving the city of Round Lake as Mayor. Also, at present, is serving as Chairman of the Board for Southwest Minnesota Broadband Services (SMBS). SMBS is a consortium of eight communities (Round Lake, Brewster, Lakefield, Heron Lake, Okabena, Wilder, Bingham Lake and Jackson) which, united with Windomnet, brings high-speed fiber optics to the homes and businesses in these communities. Fiber optics provides high speed internet, voice and cable television services to these communities and the surrounding area. Along with these elected positions, past experiences include 28 years in business and 9 years in financial lending.
What is your top priority in county government? Bringing better communication between county government and the citizens of Nobles County, and exploring other options available to the Nobles County Library.
Explain ideas you have to address your top priority: In regard to open communications, one way would be to explore the possibility of having more County Commissioner meetings in the evening instead of the majority being scheduled for the morning. In regard to the Nobles County Library, I feel the present location does need some updating. Some of the alternatives to relocating the library is a good facelift and looking into the possibility of relocating the Nobles County Historical Society, presently located in the basement of the library, to a new location. One potential location to explore for the Historical Society could be the old Fire Hall. This relocation could be the beginning of preserving a historic section of Worthington consisting of the Dayton House, Memorial Auditorium, Nobles County Library and the old Fire Hall.
What would you like to see accomplished in the county in the next four years? Along with the issues I have already pointed out, I feel one of the most important projects would be to bring high-speed internet to the rest of the county. We have a good start with fiber-to-the-premises in the communities of Brewster and Round Lake, but feel the need for this infrastructure to be completed in the rural areas and other small communities in our county is very important.
Additional comments: I feel I would be a strong voice for the small communities and rural areas of Nobles County. I look forward to working with the constituents of my district, with an open door policy, to solve the upcoming challenges facing our county, and the opportunity of serving Nobles County as one of your County Commissioners.
