Worthington U15s headed to title game

LAKELAND — Worthington FC’s U15 soccer team won two games at the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association’s state soccer tournament Saturday and Sunday, punching a ticket to the championship game Wednesday.

LAKELAND — Worthington FC’s U15 soccer team won two games at the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association’s state soccer tournament Saturday and Sunday, punching a ticket to the championship game Wednesday.

Worthington knocked off North District champion White Bear Lake 4-2 Saturday and then defeated Waconia 4-1 Sunday to earn a spot in the title game.

Jesus Ordaz netted two goals, while Roque Soto and Ivan Rodriguez each scored a goal in Game 1. In Game 2, Ammanuel Fissiha netted two goals and Rodriguez and Ordaz each found the back of the net once to lead Worthington in Game 2.

“Both games were played well and the team has showed the rest of the region what quality and class of saoccer is coming out of southwest Minnesota,” said Andy Johnson, Executive Director of the Worthington Area YMCA. “Coaches Juan Alvarez and Rogelio Gutierrez Sr. have done a nice job preparing the boys for this level of competition and having them ready to play to the end of each competition.

The championship game will be at 7 p.m.
