LAKE PARK, Iowa — This weekend marks the 28th annual Farmer Appreciation Days Celebration in Lake Park.
Starting today and ending Sunday, events have been planned for all hours of the day, from early morning to the late evening.
Opening at 10 a.m. today, the Friends of the Library Art-Painting-Photography Exhibit will continue until 5 p.m. at the Lake Park Public Library.
At 5 p.m., Golf Fun Night begins at Silver Lake Country Club, followed by the Lake Park Players performance of “Seniors of the Sahara” at 7 p.m. at Harris-Lake Park High School Auditorium.
Saturday starts bright and early with the Farmers Market opening at 7 a.m. in the parking lot of the Lake Park Public Library.
At 8 a.m., the Emersombiguns for the Cure 5K Run/Walk begins. Pre-registration is available.
Heritage Square will be having an open house from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m with the Depot Museum, Prairie House and jail open to the public. There will also be a vintage clothing showcase and a “Treasured Dolls of the Past” display. Free lemonade and cookies will be available.
Kids are invited to decorate their bikes and tricycles in a clown theme and put them on display at Heritage Square. There will be two categories — ages 2-5 and ages 6 and up — with monetary prizes for each. The contest will begin at 9:30 a.m.
There will be free watermelon, sponsored by Buy Rite Foods, on Market Street at 10 a.m., followed by the parade at 10:30 a.m.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be Maidrite, chips and pop available for a small fee at the water plant, next to the Lake Park City Park. The third annual pie eating contest will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Stan’s Corner. T-Shirts will be provided and trophies will be awarded to the top three winners.
Free inflatables and kiddie train rides will be available at noon at the city park. There will also be an adult and kid water fight at 1 p.m., sponsored by the Lake Park Fire Department. Concessions will be open from 1 to 4 p.m.
Free Family Swim Day at the Lake Park Pool is from 1 to 5 p.m., with a Lucky Duck Draw for a cash prize at 3 p.m.
The Beer Garden will open at 5 p.m. and continue until 1 a.m. in front of Lake Park Auto Repair. The Street Dance, featuring IV Play, will be from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and be located at the corner of Market Street and Avenue A West; busing will be available.
For those searching for a late-night snack or an early morning breakfast, there will be a Breafast Buffet at Cap’n Ken’s from midnight to 4 a.m.
Sunday starts off with the fourth annual Farmer’s Appreciation Tractor Ride at 1 p.m., with registration at 12:30 p.m. in the City Park.
There will be another performance of “Seniors of the Sahara” at 2:30 p.m. at Harris-Lake Park High School Auditorium.
The Lake Park Fireman’s Cruise In and Supper will begin at 5 p.m. Participants should meet at the city park, where they will proceed to cruise the area and then have brats and burgers. An ice cream social will also be available by the Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Festivities will conclude with the Lake Park Town & Country Boosters raffle drawing at 5 p.m. Winners will be drawn for two $1,000 gift certificates to Travel Central. Tickets for the raffle are available at Stan’s Corner and Niemeier Spine & Sports Chiropractic.
