Cruisin' Downtown Worthington event to take place Tuesday night

Cruisin’ Downtown Worthington, an event coordinated by the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce’s Retail Committee, will take place for the third consecutive year along Worthington’s 10th Street.

WORTHINGTON — Classic cars and antique tractors will be coming to downtown Worthington Tuesday night.

The third annual Cruisin’ Downtown Worthington event, which is scheduled to take place from 5 to 7 p.m. along 10th Street, promises to be bigger and better, Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce Retail Committee Chairwoman Amanda Walljasper said.

“New this year, the Rock-Nobles Cattlemen are going to be selling cheeseburgers, the Lions Club will be selling popcorn and the Long Branch’s tacomobile will be out on 10th Street,” Walljasper said. “We had a lot of requests for food, so we tried to expand those options.”

Another highlight during the night will be live music by Tommy Gunn, formerly the Storm Dogs.

“This is only the third year for this event, but we’re really expecting a lot and thinking it will be the best one by far,” said Walljasper, adding that the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce will be offering Chamber Checks Tuesday night. The Chamber will give away $200 in Chamber Checks; individuals may register at a table next to the band, with the drawing set for 7 p.m.

“It’s a really exciting thing for people who want to buy a gift to but don’t know what to get,” Walljasper said. “The Chamber Checks can be used at any business that is a Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce member.”

The Downtown Farmers Market will be open, as usual, on Tuesday night, and two huge baskets of produce will be given away. Individuals may register with any vendor.

Additionally, downtown business will be open and offering back-to-school sales, Walljasper noted.

“We’re really enthusiastic about the new additions to the event and hope to see it growing year after year,” she said. “It should be a great night for people to bring out their classic cars and antique tractors and enjoy a nice summer evening along 10th Street.”

People who wish to have their cars and tractors lined up as part of Cruisin’ Downtown Worthington are encouraged to call the Chamber office at 372-2919. Last-minute participants will be accepted, however.

The event is being sponsored by Bank of the West, First State Bank Southwest, Fulda Area Credit Union, Rolling Hills Bank, Wells Fargo and Worthington Federal Savings Bank.
