Kenneth Virgil Toussaint, 87, of Worthington, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11:00 am at Worthington Christian Church with the Rev. Ron Ahlgren officiating. A private family burial will be prior to the service in Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Kenneth Virgil Toussaint was born September 29, 1924 to Katie (Voss) Toussaint and Gerrit Toussaint on the family farm in Ransom Township, Nobles County. He grew up on the farm and went to a country school, graduating the 8th grade from School District #97. He attended Worthington High School his freshman year. Kenny worked on the family farm when he married Ruby Eleanor Anderson of Lakefield, MN on March 19, 1948 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield. They farmed 4 years in Worthington Township and 8 years in Dewald Township. From 1959-2000, they farmed west of Worthington. Kenny & Ruby moved from the farm to the city of Worthington in August of 2000.
Kenny retired from farming in 1983. He worked at Worthington Tractor Salvage for the next five years as a yardman and welder there. Kenny was a member of Worthington Christian Church and a former school board member of District #97.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby of 65 years and six children: Linda (Ken) Wadum of Rochester, MN; Marsha (Kendall) Langseth of Albert Lea, MN; Doug (Liz) Toussaint of Wahpeton, ND; Barb (Andy) Spencer of Marion, IA and Dean (Lisa) Toussaint of Chandler, AZ. Daughter Pam (Craig) Ebeling of Savage, MN died in 1989. Craig (Jan) Ebeling also survive.
Siblings include Darwin (Donna) Toussaint of Worthington, MN; Clarene (Dale) Erickson of Council Bluffs, IA and Jerry Toussaint of Worthington, MN. Kenny was preceded in death by daughter Pam, infant brother Gary and parents, Gerrit and Katie.
Surviving grandchildren include: Lance, Sara, Ahna, Emmy, Melissa, Libby, Becky, Micah, Noah, Levi, Nick, Laura, Brad, Angie, Amanda, Emily, Ian and Michaela. Great-grandchildren include: Mason, Jack, Hailey, Brady, Stanley, Collin, Shawn, Drew, Brooklyn, Elizabeth, Mackenzie, Kendall, Wesley, Joey, Julissa, Whitney and Paisley. Honorary pallbearers will be his 6 male grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to an organ and tissue donation organization, LifeSource.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
