Obituary: Darrell Fischer

Darrell Fischer, 63, of Lakefield, passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Wednesday, August 29, 2012.

Darrell Fischer, 63, of Lakefield, passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Funeral service will be on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 2pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley with Pastor Gerald Gauthier III officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul’s old Cemetery, Rost Township, with Military Rites provided by the Jackson American Legion & VFW Posts.

Visitation will be Friday, August 31, 2012 from 4-7pm at the Osterberg-Hansen Funeral Home in Lakefield and also one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Darrell Lee Fischer was born on April 18, 1949 in Jackson, Minnesota, the son of Harold and Marietta (Heinrichs) Fischer. He graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1967 and later attended Worthington Junior College in Worthington, Minnesota. After his education, he joined the Minnesota National Guard. He was united in marriage to Janet Jones on April 11, 1987 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After marriage, they lived and farmed in Rost Township until they built a home in Lakefield in 2008. Darrell passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 11 days.

Darrell was a life long member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley, where he had been baptized and confirmed and served on the Education Board. Farming was his life but he loved to travel, having been to Las Vegas many times and taken the family to Disneyland and Disney World. He enjoyed shopping for farm machinery and going to farm auctions. He was a faithful “Green Machinery” farmer. He enjoyed his family and friends. He loved the land, hamburgers, his Church and community. He was known for his sense of humor and his favorite saying was “The Lord helps the slow and lazy”.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 25 years, Janet Fischer of Lakefield, 2 sons, Dallas Fischer and Darren Fischer, both of Lakefield, his friend and co-worker, Lee Garms and his son, Logan Garms, and 2 sisters, Marless and Marilynn, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents.
