TROJANS GIRLS' TENNIS: Trojans girls’ tennis falls to Pipestone 4-3

PIPESTONE — The Worthington girls’ tennis team lost a close match to the Pipestone Area Arrows 4-3 Monday night in Pipestone.

The Trojans split their singles matchs, taking two wins out of four from the Arrows.

In No. 1 singles, Worthington’s Kate Lesnar fell to Pipestone Area’s Veronica Johnson in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Emily Williamson picked up a win for the Trojans, taking down Taylor Carson 6-2, 6-0.

The Arrows Natalie Scotting took down Rachel Drietz, but Drietz was able to force a third set before finally losing 7-5, 4-6, 6-0. Kirsten Aljets picked up the second win of the night for the Trojans with her two game win over Nicole Scotting, 6-4, 6-1.

Pipestone was able to grab victory with two wins in three doubles matches. The Trojans No. 1 doubles pair of Annie Lesnar and Brianna Kempema fell in straight sets to Tiffany Woelber and Laura Rudie, 6-1, 6-1.

In No. 2 doubles, Elizabeth Like and Laura Wetering lost to Ashley Griebel and Tessa Lueck of Pipestone 6-2, 6-2.

In the final doubles match, the Trojans No. 3 pair of Makensie Carstensen and Sarah Janssen were forced to a third set, but were still able to knocked off the Arrows Abby Steffan and Sarah Woelber 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-4.

In JV play, Shelby Larson won her singles match 8-5 while the doubles team of Kristy Workman and Kelly Newman won their match.

Tatyanan Clark and Katilyn Brunk lost their doubles match 8-7, while Brunk and her doubles partner Vanessa Juanez lost 6-5. Larson also played a doubles match with Workman and Anna Kill, winning both.

Finally, Clark and Newman paired up and won 4-3.

The Trojans host Marshall Thursday at 4:15 p.m. in Worthington.
