Obituary: Jean Fellows

Jean Lois Fellows, age 85, was born on September 19, 1926, in Worthington, MN, the daughter of Mary (Kirlin) and Roy Pfeil.

Jean Lois Fellows, age 85, was born on September 19, 1926, in Worthington, MN, the daughter of Mary (Kirlin) and Roy Pfeil. Her family included two older sisters, Marion (Christopherson) and Mildred (Marsden) and two younger brothers, Henry and Robert. Jean attended country school for 8 years and graduated from Worthington High School in 1944. After teaching school for two years she worked as a bookkeeper for John Deere. Jean married Jim Fellows on November 23, 1951, had three sons, Roger, Richard, and Gary while living and working on the family farm south of Worthington. Jean died on Monday, September 10, 2012, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 2010. Jean is survived by her sons, Roger (Lynn) Fellows of Maple Grove, MN, Richard (Bethani) Fellows of Worthington, MN, and Gary (Elaine) Fellows of Apex, NC; nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Jean was involved in many activities on local, state and national levels. She was active in Emmanuel United Methodist Church leadership, serving on various committees. She served on the United Way Board and was a member of the Worthington Garden Club and Hospital Auxiliary. As a breast cancer survivor, Jean was also active in supporting other Cancer survivors. She was hostess to numerous foreign visitors in her home and enjoyed talking about family farming and agriculture. Jean held many offices in the Minnesota State Farm Bureau including state Women’s Farm Bureau President for several years. Her extension work included over 16 years on county committees, including 4-H. Jean enjoyed gardening and caring for her many flower gardens both on the farm and after moving into Worthington.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Gordon J. Orde officiating. Private family burial will be held prior to the service in the Worthington Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society of Worthington.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
