REDWOOD FALLS — The Trojans volleyball team beat Redwood Valley in four sets, winning 22-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-9 Thursday.
“We kept our momentum going and got better each game,” WHS coach Melissa Schutz said. “We got better at not having unforced errors as each game went by as well.”
Paige Gravenhof had four aces, 21 set assists and was 19-for-20 on the serve for Worthington, while Becca Linder was a perfect 17-for-17 on the serve with three aces.
“We got more focused in and kept things on target better as the night went on,” Schutz said. “In the first game we had 11 unforced errors, so we talked about limiting those and hitting harder on the serve.”
Brooke Henning had 13 kills and three aces for Worthington, while Morgan Johnson picked up nine kills and Tara Svalland added another seven kills. Morgan Harberts had 20 set assists, while Anna Koepsell had 11 digs, Paige Kinley had eight digs and K. C Riley had nine digs to go along with an ace on the serve.
“The overall feeling of the game was that the girls were having a good time,” Schutz said. “It was fun to get the win and you can tell they want more now.”
Worthington plays at home against Luverne Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
Windom 3, Luverne 0
LUVERNE — Solid contributions from a number of players led the Windom Eagles to a three-game sweep over the Luverne Cardinals in a Southwest Conference high school volleyball match Thursday night.
Windom won on game scores of 25-10, 25-21 and 25-18 to improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Holly Larson led Windom with 15 kills, while Kelsey Hanefeld and Hali Tasler each had four kills. Shelby Mattson finished with 17 set assists, and Sami Petersen chipped in with seven set assists for the Eagles.
Tasler (18-for-19, three aces) and Rachel Sorensen (14-for-14) were Windom’s top servers. Tasler also had 17 digs, while Jasmine Carlson came up with 23 digs in the back row.
Taylor Stratton led Luverne (1-6, 0-2) with eight kills and five blocks, while Paige Baker collected five kills and eight digs. Ashley Olson (11-for-13, two aces) and Erica DeBoer (7-for-9, one ace) were the Cardinals’ top servers.
Ellen Dahl and DeBoer came up with nine and eight digs, respectively, while Olson (10) and Ashlinn Curtis (seven) led Luverne in set assists.
Windom plays at the Jackson County Central tournament in Jackson Saturday, while Luverne plays at Worthington next Thursday.
MLA 3, Adrian 1
MOUNTAIN LAKE — Janessa Peters racked up 19 kills and four blocks Thursday night, as the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines claimed a four-set victory over the Adrian Dragons in a Red Rock Conference high school volleyball match.
MLA (6-5, 2-1) won via game scores of 22-25, 25-21, 27-25 and 25-18.
Rachel Dukes totaled 34 set assists and nine digs for the Wolverines, while Jordan Syverson smacked 10 kills. Carmen Syverson (21-for-22, two aces) and Paige Brown (19-for-19) were the Wolverines’ top servers, and Mikayla Falk chipped in with 11 digs.
Courtney Vaske led Adrian (5-6, 1-2) with 12 kills, six blocks and a 24-for-25 serving performance that included three aces. Corie Reckamp smacked 10 kills for the Dragons.
Rachel Kontz dished out 30 set assists for Adrian, while Jenna Slater (15) and Carly Wolf (14) led the Dragons in digs.
MLA hosts Southwestern United next Thursday, while Adrian hosts Edgerton Tuesday.
MCC 3, RRC 0
SLAYTON — Taylor Schreier blasted 12 kills and came up with 11 digs to help lead the Murray County Central Rebels to a three-game sweep over the Red Rock Conference high school volleyball match Thursday night.
MCC is now 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference after winning on game scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-21.
Kristi Bose (14 digs, 10 kills), Hannah Schmidt (15 digs), Jade Giese (12 set assists) and Paris Thomas (10 set assists) were among the other statistical leaders for the Rebels.
Chloe Arfsten (11 digs, 13-for-13 serving) and Fern Engen (two blocks) both smacked six kills to lead RRC. Mikaela Smith (12-for-13 serving with an ace) and Tegan Derickson finished with 11 set assists apiece for the Falcons.
Brooke Rasmussen (12 digs) and Katie Larsen were each 10-for-10 serving for RRC, which is now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
MCC hosts Pipestone Area Monday, while RRC is at the Jackson County Central tournament Saturday.
SWU 3, Ellsworth 0
ELLSWORTH — Mandy Henkels dished out 26 set assists and was 15-for-19 serving with four aces Thursday night, sparking the Southwestern United Wildcats to a three-game sweep over the Ellsworth Panthers in a Red Rock Conference high school volleyball match.
SWU, which improves to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference, won via game scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-13.
Henkels (six digs) and Rachel Mathias (six kills) each had two blocks for the Wildcats, while Courtney Place cracked 13 kills and was 13-for-13 serving with four aces. Alyssa Hendrickson was 15-for-20 serving with five aces and also came up with six digs for SWU.
The Wildcats will host Hills-Beaver Creek Tuesday.
W-WG 3, H-BC 0
HILLS — Paige Erickson and Dayna Comnick each smacked 11 kills Thursday night, helping lead the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers to a three-game sweep over the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots in a Red Rock Conference high school volleyball match.
Game scores were 25-16, 25-7 and 25-17 in favor of the Chargers, who improve to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Erickson (10) and Comnick (eight) also topped W-WG’s digs sheet, while Madison Takle came up with five digs. Kelsi Wahl and Hailey Osland contributed with five kills apiece.
Abby Herding collected 20 set assists and was also one of the Chargers’ leading servers (15-for-16 with four aces). Erickson was 16-for-17 with four aces from the service line, while Hunter Priegnitz went 9-for-9 with two aces for W-WG.
Hattie Van Wyhe (10 digs) and Meghan Leuthold led H-BC with four kills apiece, while Paige Leuthold had 11 set assists. Jessica Sandbulte led the Patriots (0-5, 0-3) in serving with a perfect 8-for-8 performance.
W-WG plays at the Jackson County Central tournament in Jackson Saturday. H-BC travels to play Southwestern United Tuesday.
T-M-B 3, Canby 2
CANBY — Tracy-Milroy-Balaton prevailed in a thrilling five-set Camden Conference high school volleyball match Thursday night, outlasting the Canby Lancers on game scores of 22-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-25 and 15-9.
Jenna Stoneberg led T-M-B with 17 kills, while Cassandra Hook finished with 39 set assists. Anna Peterson (21) and Cassidy Przymus (19) tallied the most digs for the Panthers.
T-M-B (4-5, 3-0) plays in the Jackson County Central tournament in Jackson Saturday.
