PREP FOOTBALL: Orabs take down Lions

SHELDON, Iowa — Quarterback Chris Balster led the Sheldon Orabs over the Central Lyon/George-Little Rock Lions 34-14 in a Class 2A District 1 football game Friday night in Sheldon.

The Orab QB threw for 89 yards and two TDs, while running for another 142 yards and a TD.

Sheldon’s first TD came in the first quarter on a Balster four-yard run (PAT good). CL/G-LR tied the score in the second quarter on a 15-yard TD run by Jesse Markus (1-for-5, 17 yards; 52 yards rushing) (PAT good).

The Orabs answered right back with two straight touchdowns of their own to take a 14 points lead. The first came on a Balster 19-yard TD pass to Nathan Oostra (PAT good) and the second was a one-yard run by Hunter McDonald (91 yards). The score made it 21-7 in favor of the Orabs heading into half time.

In the third quarter, CL/G-LR scored on a 49-yard TD run by Josh Hunt (200 yards) to bring the Lions within seven (PAT good).

But Sheldon closed the door with two more TDs in the fourth quarter to make it 34-14. Balster picked up his second passing TD on a seven-yard pass to Oostra (PAT failed) and then McDonald scored again on a 13-yard rushing TD (PAT good).

Clayton Scheibler came up big on defense for the Orabs, picking up nine solo tackles and a fumble recovery.

Sheldon (4-1) travels to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Friday, while CL/G-LR hosts Estherville Lincoln Central the same night.

LAKE PARK, Iowa — The Harris-Lake Park Wolves fell to Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn in overtime in a football game Friday night in Lake Park.

Colin Brons led the Wolves with 316 yards passing (24-for-36), five TDs and one interception. Kade Heikens rushed for 120 yards on 23 carries for three TDs to go along with 138 yards receiving for another two TDs. Tanner Hiveley (13 tackles) rushed for 45 yards, while Brady Van Iperen had 12 catches for 157 yards and two TDs, plus 16 tackles and a sack on defense.

H-LP (3-2) travels to play River Valley Friday.
