ROCHESTER — The Rochester Yellowjackets claimed a key three-game sweep over the Minnesota West Lady Jays Friday night, winning 27-25, 25-18 and 25-18 in a Minnesota College Athletic Conference Southern Division volleyball match.

“It was definitely a back-and-forth match,” Minnesota West head coach Marie Johnson said. “Rochester is always a very competitive team, and we were right in contention point-for-point with them for most of the night.”

Katey Granstra led the Lady Jays (4-3 division record) with 13 kills. Brittany Hulstein had 18 digs and eight kills, while Mara Eichenberger finished with 21 set assists and 11 digs.

Christine Kazemba (five kills), Maddie Rasche (10 digs), Ceilia Schmitz (three ace serves) and Tiffany Gehl (one block) also had stand-out nights for Minnesota West.

“The girls played well, but Rochester was able to string together a few more rallies than we did,” Johnson said. “It was a good match overall, as we came out strong and played as a team.”

The Lady Jays play Riverland at Austin Wednesday night.
