PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Wildcats beat Dragons

ADRIAN — Courtney Place pounded 18 kills and went 21-for-24 serving with seven aces Tuesday night, as the Southwestern United Wildcats claimed a three-set sweep over the Adrian Dragons in a Red Rock Conference high school volleyball match.

ADRIAN — Courtney Place pounded 18 kills and went 21-for-24 serving with seven aces Tuesday night, as the Southwestern United Wildcats claimed a three-set sweep over the Adrian Dragons in a Red Rock Conference high school volleyball match.

SWU won via game scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-9, improving to 16-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Mandy Henkels and Andrea Hinkeldey (nine digs) dished out 19 and 14 set assists, respectively, for the Wildcats. Alyssa Hendrickson tallied six kills and five blocks for SWU, while Rachel Mathias (four blocks) and Sarah Schmid (seven digs) also chipped in.

Brook Wenzel led Adrian with eight digs and a 10-for-11 serving effort, while Carly Wolf had four kills and two ace blocks. Courtney Vaske (12 digs, two ace blocks) and Rachel Kontz (nine set assists) were the other statistical leaders for the Dragons.

SWU hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove Thursday, while Adrian (6-10, 2-6) plays at Fulda Thursday.

W-WG 3, Edgerton 0

WESTBROOK — Abby Herding went 26-for-27 serving with 10 aces and distributed 18 set assists Tuesday night, sparking the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers to a three-set sweep over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen in a Red Rock Conference high school volleyball match.

W-WG, which improves to 16-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference, won on game scores of 25-9, 25-17 and 25-12.

Dayna Comnick (16-for-16) and Hailey Osland (9-for-9) both fired four ace serves for W-WG, while Paige Erickson registered seven kills and four digs. Osland smacked six kills, and Comnick finished with five digs and four kills.

Herding and Alexa Byers both had three digs for the Chargers, while Kelsi Wahl collected an ace block.

Jessica Menning led Edgerton with three kills and three blocks, while Amanda Schaap was 10-for-12 serving with three aces and dished out five assists.

Lindsey VanDyke (6-for-7 serving, one ace), Ciara Everett (four digs) and Jessica Jasper (three blocks) also helped the Flying Dutchmen’s cause.

W-WG plays at Southwestern United Thursday, while Edgerton (1-17, 0-9) hosts Hills-Beaver Creek Thursday.

RRC 3, Fulda 1

JEFFERS — Chloe Arfsten charted six kills, six digs, three blocks and was 14-for-14 serving with an ace Tuesday night, leading the Red Rock Central Falcons to a four-game victory over the Fulda Raiders in a Red Rock Conference high school volleyball match on the Falcons’ Coaches vs. Cancer night.

RRC won on game scores of 25-13, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-11, as Mikaela Smith was 23-for-24 serving with a trio of aces to go along with 13 digs and 10 set assists.

Brooke Rasmussen (18-for-19 serving with two aces, 18 digs), Tegan Derickson (15 set assists), Fern Engen (11 kills) and Melanie Kedl (six kills) were the other statistical leaders for the Falcons.

Rachel Cheadle paced Fulda with 12 kills, 12 digs and five blocks in addition to an 11-for-11 serving line with one ace. Brittney Hermeling totaled 13 digs and seven kills for the Raiders.

Myah Holinka (11-for-11 serving, one ace), Mallory Pagel (9-for-9 serving), Dani Hermeling (18 set assists) and Amanda Schumacher (two blocks) also contributed for Fulda.

RRC (7-8, 5-2) plays at Cedar Mountain/Comfrey Thursday, while Fulda (2-12, 1-5) hosts Adrian Thursday.

MLA 3, Ellsworth 1

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Janessa Peters knocked down 18 kills Tuesday night, helping lift the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines to a four-game victory over the Ellsworth Panthers in a Red Rock Conference high school volleyball match.

Game scores were 25-15, 29-31, 25-15 and 25-23 in favor of the Wolverines, who were aided by 33 set assists from Rachel Dukes and 19 digs from Mikayla Falk.

Jordan Syverson and Kailee Heltemes both smacked six kills for MLA, while Paige Brown (nine kills) went 25-for-26 serving with 16 points. Carmen Syverson (five blocks) was 24-for-25 serving with 17 points for the Wolverines.

Paige Meester and Alexa Huisman led the Panthers in kills with seven a piece with Huisman also picking up eight digs. Bridget Kramer had 15 set assists and a block, while Danille DeBeer added five kills, seven set assists and five digs.

MLA (8-8, 4-3) plays at a tournament in St. Clair Saturday.

SWC 3, H-BC 0

EDGERTON — Morgan Van Hulzen led the Southwest Christian Eagles with 10 kills and five blocks in a win over the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots Tuesday.

Game scores were 25-12, 25-13, 25-9 in favor of the Eagles.

Hannah Van Dyke led SWC in set assists with 22, while Amber Pater added six digs and seven kills. Shelby Klarenbeek picked up seven digs and four aces with Carissa Tinklenberg hitting another six kills.

Meghan Leuthold led the Patriots with four digs and four kills, while Paige Leuthold went six for six on the serve with eight set assists. Hattie Van Wyhe was also perfect on the serve (nine for nine) with two kills to go along with two digs by Taylor Wingert.

SWC heads to Worthington Thursday, while H-BC travels to Edgerton Thursday.

Luverne 3, WC 1

HARTFORD, S.D. — Taylor Stratton got her hands on 21 balls for partial blocks in the Luverne Cardinals’ win over West Central (S.D.) Tuesday.

The Cardinals won in four sets with scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 25-20.

Stratton also had seven kills for Luverne with Lexi Rust adding 10 kills and 14 digs. Ashley Olson came up with eight set assists, while going 17 for 22 on the serve with six aces. Paige Baker had three aces and Logan Herman had 14 digs.

The Cardinals play again Thursday at Redwood Valley.

Windom 3, MCW 1

TRIMONT — Holly Larson smacked 19 kills and came up with a pair of ace blocks Tuesday night, leading the Windom Eagles to a four-game victory over the Martin County West Mavericks in a non-conference high school volleyball match.

Game scores were 25-19, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-15 in favor of the Eagles, who are now 14-4 overall.

Jasmine Carlson (8-for-11 serving, six aces) and Hali Tasler (24-for-25 serving, two aces) both collected 20 digs for Windom, while Shelby Mattson distributed 21 set assists. Rachel Sorensen added nine kills.

Windom hosts Worthington in a Southwest Conference match next Tuesday night.

Minneota 3, T-M-B 1

TRACY — The state-ranked Minneota Vikings dispatched the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers in four sets Tuesday night, claiming a Camden Conference high school volleyball victory on game scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-12 and 25-23.

Sammie Gervais (13 kills, 11-for-12 serving with an ace) and Jenna Stoneberg (10 kills, three blocks) were among the leaders for T-M-B.

Cassie Hook had 26 set assists and was 9-for-9 serving with an ace, while Anna Peterson (12 digs) was 15-for-15 serving with an ace. Kelli Soupir came up with a team-best 13 digs for the Panthers.

T-M-B (9-9, 5-2) hosts Renville County West Thursday.
