Leter: DFL platform has little to embraceI recently asked some DFL candidates if they think they would be better off running as independents, considering what’s all on the DFL party platform these days. I got no response.

I recently asked some DFL candidates if they think they would be better off running as independents, considering what’s all on the DFL party platform these days. I got no response.
Take a look at the 2012 platform, under “Protecting Rights and Freedoms.”:
1. “The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.”
Now, hold that thought and move down to “Firearms.”
“We understand the terrible consequences of gun violence; it serves as a reminder that life is fragile, and our time here is limited and precious.” That’s an amazing statement coming from the party that supports the right to partially deliver a baby then puncture the back of the kid’s skull, suction out the brains and crush the skull so that the child will definitely be “born” dead.
Some DFLers will say they are “pro-life” and would never support abortion. But I ask: Would you stay in the DFL party if the platform supported ownership of black slaves, even though you are anti-slavery? I don’t think so. You would not even want to be remotely associated with such an embarrassing party platform plank. But it’s OK to be associated with a party that promotes torture and killing of children?
2. “We support marriage equality and support the movement to secure equal treatment under law for same-sex couples” And, “We support the full repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. …”
This goes against the law of nature and common sense that are in accord with the “Natural Law.” (As for “law of nature,” ask a retired livestock farmer if in his career, he has ever witnessed a couple of his male animals performing the mating act on each other through most of their life, and always avoiding the females.)
I am not a Republican and this is not an endorsement of that party. I just want the torture and killing of innocent children to stop and to stand up for the good, the true and the beautiful — the union of one man and one woman for a definition of marriage. Please vote “yes” on the marriage amendment ballot. If you leave the ballot space empty, it will count as a “no” vote.
