PREP VOLLEYBALL: Ellsworth finishes third, T-M-B goes 1-4 in tournaments

LAKE PARK, Iowa — The Ellsworth Panthers took third place at the Harris-Lake Park tournament Saturday after defeating Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in the third place match.
The Panthers lost their first game to Trinity Christian 21-15, 21-16. Alexa Huisman had five digs and three kills for Ellsworth, while Bridget Kramer had 10 digs. Danielle DeBeer had four assists and Paige Meester added four kills.
In Game 2, the Panthers fell to Harris-Lake Park 21-13, 21-17. Emily Chapa led the team in digs with seven and Kramer led the team in set assists with five. Huisman had three kills and an ace, while DeBeer picked up three set assists.
Ellsworth got its first win of the tournament in Game 3 over H-M-S, 21-8, 21-12. Huisman led the team in kills with seven, while Kramer added six digs and 10 set assists for the Panthers. DeBeer had nine digs and Werner had six in the game.
The Panthers came out of pool play with the third seed and faced Trinity Christian for the second time. TC was able to come out on top once again, winning 21-12, 21-16. Huisman had four kills and Kramer had eight digs, five set assists and five kills. Chapa picked up 10 digs on defense.
With the loss, the Panthers played for third place against H-M-S in their last game of the tournament. Ellsworth won 13-21, 21-15, 15-9 to take third place.
Kramer had five aces for the Panthers and DeBeer picked up seven set assists. Chapa had six digs and Huisman added seven kills to round out the offense.
Ellsworth travels to Adrian Tuesday.
T-M-B goes 1-4 at STMA tournament
ST. MICHAEL — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers fell to 11-13 on the year after picking up just one win at the St. Michael-Albertville invitational over the weekend.
T-M-B faced Roseville in the opening game of the tournament and fell 25-22, 25-15. The Panthers got their only win of the tournament in their second game against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa winning 25-18, 25-18.
T-M-B then went on to face Moorhead, losing 25-22, 25-19. The Panthers then faced Litchfield, who defeated T-M-B in three games, 23-25, 25-20, 15-3.
In the team’s final game of the tournament, the Panthers lost to Benilde-St. Margarets’s 25-24, 25-14.
Sammie Gervais led the team in kills (30) and blocks (3) and also picked up 24 digs for the Panthers. Cassie Hook had 21 digs, nine kills and 65 set assists, while Anna Peterson had a team leading 66 digs. Kelli Soupir had 10 kills, two blocks and 38 digs to go along with Jenna Stoneberg’s 25 kills and six digs. Kassidy Przymus added six kills and 12 digs for T-M-B, while Sara Stoneberg had 18 digs, two kills and a block.
T-M-B travels to Lincoln HI Tuesday.
