On behalf of the members of Ransford Chapter Order of Eastern Star, I want to express my gratitude to the people of Nobles County for their support of the K-9 Units of both the City of Worthington and Nobles County on Sept 30. Worthington Police Officer Brett Wiltrout and Nobles County Deputy Dustin Roemeling were exceptionally easy people to work with and great hosts during the fundraiser, as were their K-9 partners! The support of the Daily Globe, Radio Works, Bob & Steve’s, United Prairie Bank and all the businesses that allowed our flyers to be posted were all important in making citizens aware of this event.

Thanks to the Elks Lodge for allowing us to use their facility for the fundraiser, since it is more user-friendly than our second-floor facility. Bev, the Elks “planner,” was most helpful in offering suggestions and ordering the food. The cooks, who are duo members of the Elks and the Masons, were phenomenal in keeping up with the steady flow of guests; these gentlemen volunteered from 6:30 a.m. until after 1 p.m. on their one day off from their regular employment. They truly know the pancake breakfast routine inside and out!

Donations amounted to $1,274 and together with the ticket receipts, approximately $3,000 will be divided between the two K-9 units. We are optimistic that the Minnesota Masonic Charities will appropriate matching fund for this event, as well. Our Eastern Star Chapter was pleased that our local Fraternity Lodge of Masons and the Shriners were willing to assist us with this fundraiser.

We realize this is only a start for the fundraising needed to obtain the two new dogs and all the training required, so we challenge other organizations to consider raising money for this worthwhile cause. If there are those of you in the community that would desire more information about our local Masonic Family and how we support the Crippled Children’s Hospital, the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Cancer Center, scholarship programs and other projects, you are encouraged to contact any of our members.
