PREP VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals beat Dutchmen

LUVERNE — Ellen Dahl led the Luverne Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen with six aces and eight kills Monday.

LUVERNE — Ellen Dahl led the Luverne Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen with six aces and eight kills Monday.

Edgerton took a one game to none lead after winning the first set 25-23, but Luverne fought right back and took the second game 25-16.

The Cardinals continued to roll in the third game, jumping out to an early lead and then finishing off the Dutchmen 25-16.

Edgerton made it close in Game 4 in an attempted to stave off elimination, but Luverne would have none of it. The Cardinals won the game 26-24 to claim the match.

Not only did Dahl lead the team in aces and kills, but she also had a respectable night on the serve, going 17 for 19 for Luverne. Erica DeBoer led the team in digs with 18, while Ashley Olson came up with 10 set assists and went 14 for 18 at the line to go along with three aces.

Ashlinn Curtis was second on the team with six set assists and Amanda Barnhart (14 for 18 serving) got her hand on eight blocks on the night for the Cardinals. Nicole Hoff led the team in blocking with 11 touches on defense.

Jessica Menning had 11 digs and five set assists for the Dutchmen, while Sarah Post went 19 for 20 on the serve with four aces. Amanada Schaap was 14 for 16 on the serve with four set assists and an ace. Ciara Everett had three kills and Lindsey Van Dyke added three blocks.

Edgerton hosts Mountain Lake Area Thursday and Luverne travels to Harris-Lake Park Thursday.

JCC 3, MCW 0

JACKSON — Lydia Brandt led the Jackson County Cenral Huskies to a sweep of Martin County West Monday.

The Huskies won Game 1 25-19, then took Game 2 25-10. MCW fought back in Game 3, but fell short in a 25-18 loss.

Brandt also had a block for the Huskies, while Michelle VanEpps led the team in set assists with 35 and had four kills, four digs, a block and an ace.

Kaylee Burmeister picked up eight kills, six digs and two blocks to go along with Sydnee Donnelli’s eight kills and an ace. Jasmine Erickson added three blocks, six digs and seven kills of her own, while Kathryn Nasby (16 for 16 serving, two aces) had eight digs.

Rachel Johnson went 9 for 9 on the serve with two aces and Sydney Nyborg picked up three blocks and three kills.

JCC hosts New Ulm today.
