PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: SWU wins close one over RRC

OKABENA — Courtney Place smashed 23 kills for the Southwestern United Wildcats in a five set win over the Red Rock Central Falcons Tuesday.

OKABENA — Courtney Place smashed 23 kills for the Southwestern United Wildcats in a five set win over the Red Rock Central Falcons Tuesday.

SWU won 25-21 in the first set, but lost the next two 25-20, 25-22. The Wildcats fought back in the fourth set to win 26-24 and then won the fifth 15-12 to take the match.

Place added 14 digs, four aces and six blocks to her team leading kills for the SWU, while Rachel Mathias had 13 digs, eight kills and 11 blocks. Kailey Wendlend was perfect on the serve (9 for 9) with an ace to go along with Mandy Henkels 37 set assists and 13 digs.

Cassandra Erickson had 10 kills and 18 digs for the Falcons, while Chole Arfsten added nine more kills and four aces. Katie Larsen was also perfect on the serve (17 for 17) with three aces and Fern Engen had eight blocks. Brooke Rasmussen picked up 14 set assists.

RRC hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove Thursday, while SWU travels to Murray County Central Thursday.

Adrian 3, Ellsworth 2

ADRIAN — Courtney Vaske picked up 20 digs and 16 kills to help the Adrian Dragons hold off the Ellsworth Panthers in a five set win Tuesday.

The Dragons won 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 19-25 and 15-13.

Brook Wenzel had 11 digs and was 25 for 28 on the serve with three aces for Adrian, while Corie Reckamp had nine kills. Kayla Lonneman added right more kills and four aces to go along with 28 set assists by Rachel Kontz.

Bridget Kramer led the Panthers with 20 digs, 15 set assists and on ace with Paige Meester also picking up an ace. Hannah Mulder had seven aces, nine kills and five blocks, while Alexa Huisman added 11 kills and 11 digs. Danielle DeBeer had 14 set assists in the game.

Ellsworth places at Southwest Christian Thursday and Adrian hosts SWC Monday.

MCC 3, H-BC 0

SLAYTON — Kristi Bose led the Murray County Rebels to a sweep of the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots with 16 kills, 13 digs and four blocks Tuesday.

MCC won 25-16, 25-12, and 25-11.

Taylor Schreier was second on the team with eight kills and 20 digs for MCC, while Macy Halbur added 11 digs and five kills. Hannah Schmidt had 11 digs for the Rebels.

Paige Leuthold was eight for eight on the serve with six set assists, while Haley Van Wyhe had two kills and Meghan Leuthold had three kills.

MCC hosts the Southwestern United Wildcats Thursday, while H-BC plays in the Subway Tournament Friday.

SWC 3, Fulda 1

FULDA — The Southwest Christian Eagles took down the Fulda Raiders 25-10, 25-13, 25-14 Tuesday.

Shelby Klarenbeek led the Eagles in digs with 15, while Hannah Van Dyke had 34 set assists. Amber Pater was 14 for 15 on the serve with five aces and both Morgan Van Hulzen and Carissa Tinklenberg had six kills for the Eagles.

Dani Hermeling had seven set assists for Fulda, while Brittney Hermeling had six kills, two blocks and 12 digs. Myah Holinka was eight for eight on the serve and Rachel Cheadle added four kills.

SWC hosts Ellsworth Thursday and Fulda plays Friday in the Subway Tournament.

W-WG 3, MLA 1

WESTBROOK — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers were led by 17 kills from Hailey Osland in a four set victory over the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines Tuesday.

The Chargers won 25-20, 18-25, 25-16, 25-13.

Dayna Comnick had 11 kills, seven digs and three aces for the Chargers, while Abby Herding had 35 set assists and five aces. Paige Erickson had 12 kills and Shiney Her added six digs.

W-WG plays at Red Rock Central Thursday and MLA plays at Edgerton Thursday.

T-M-B 3, Lincoln HI 0

IVANHOE — Sara Stoneberg led the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers with nine kills in a sweep of Lincoln HI Tuesday.

Kelli Soupier had six digs, seven kills and two aces, while Anna Peterson had five digs. Sammie Gervais added six kills and two blocks to go along with Cassandra Hook’s 25 set assists and three aces.

T-M-B hosts Windom Thursday.
