Craig Clark staying in Worthington

City administrator turns down West St. Paul job
WORTHINGTON — Worthington’s city administrator since 2008 is staying in his current job.

WORTHINGTON — Worthington’s city administrator since 2008 is staying in his current job.

Craig Clark received a job offer from West St. Paul last week, but said he wasn’t able to come to a contract agreement with the City of West St. Paul.

“Considering other professional opportunities is not something I’ve taken lightly, and given the terms of the contract, it proved too difficult to break away from the people I’ve worked with and the efforts I’ve put forth here in Worthington,” Clark stated in an email.

“It’s been great to be a part of the community projects, and I look forward to continuing in my role as city administrator,” Clark said.

Worthington Mayor Alan Oberloh said that city council members know Clark is actively looking for a different job, and they wish him the best of luck in the future.

“Once a person has their mind made up that they want to move up in their career, holding them back is not (an option), Oberloh said. “He’s trying to move himself up to a larger community, and I have to support that.”

“He was also offered a job in Pekin, Ill., but turned it down,” Oberloh said. “I told him that if he keeps turning down jobs offered to him, people will stop interviewing him.”

“In the event that Mr. Clark does leave, the city of Worthington would start the process of replacing him, which may involve having a firm come in to help with that search,” Oberloh said.

“The position continues to be rewarding and something I continue to work hard at every day,” Clark said. “I appreciate all the kind words of support from many folks as this process has played out.”
