TROJAN VOLLEYBALL: Trojans, MCC claim wins Friday at Subway Classic

MARSHALL —The Trojan volleyball team was led by Brooke Henning’s 14 kills, 4 blocks and 17 digs in two wins at the Subway Classic Friday.

Worthington played Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in Game 1, winning 27-25, 20-25, 15-7 in a best-of-three match.

In Game 2, the Trojans took down G-F-W in three games, 15-25, 25-23, 15-8.

Becca Linder was a perfect 27 for 27 on the serve with an ace, four blocks and 11 kills for the Trojans. KC Riley (19 for 20 serving) led the team in digs with 28 and Morgan Harberts had four aces to go along with and 20 set assists.

Paige Gravenhof picked up three aces in addition to her 22 set assists and 21 digs for Worthington. Allie Bruns had 10 blocks and seven kills, while Tara Svalland added 12 kills and six blocks. Anna Koepsell also had 20 digs for the Trojans.

The Trojans earned the second seed in the tournament and will play in the Brown Division today.

MCC takes top seed

in pool play

MARSHALL —The Murray County Central Rebels took the top seed in their pool after sweeps of R-T-R and G-F-W Friday at the Subway Classic.

The Rebels won their first game against R-T-R 25-20, 25-21. MCC then went on to play G-F-W, winning 25-11, 25-22.

Kristi Bose led the team in kills with 28 and blocks with three, while also coming up with 20 digs on the day for MCC. Hannah Schmidt had 31 digs to lead the Rebels and Jade Giese picked up 20 set assists, 12 digs and six kills.

Taylor Schreier had two aces, 17 digs and one block for the Rebels. Ashely Clarke added four kills and 20 digs.

With the top seed in their pool, the Rebels move on to the Championship braket of the tournament today.
