WORTHINGTON — Katey Granstra smashed 15 kills in the Lady Jays three game sweep of the Anoka-Ramsey Golden Rams Friday.

“These next few games are all really important for us,” MW coach Marie Johnson said. “We have the chance to control our own destiny in whether or not we make the regional tournament.”

MW came out slow in its first game, with multiple lead changes throughout the set. But in the end the Lady Jays were able to come away with the win.

“We came out slower than we have been practicing all week,” Johnson said. “It was very back and forth, but we pulled it together in the end. It just took time for us to get going.”

The Lady Jays came out with a 25-14 win in Game 2 and looked to be settling into a groove heading into Game 3.

“We brought our excitement that we had at the end of Game 1 into Game 2,” Johnson said. “We were much more excited and having a lot more fun. We worked as a team and everything just seemed to go right for us at that point.”

Despite the strong win in Game 2, the Lady Jays fell behind early in Game 3, trailing by as many as six at one point.

“We started slow again in Game 3,” Johnson said. “We got down at the beginning, but we fought back. The girls started swinging harder and they were talking better too.”

MW took Game 3 25-21 to claim the sweep.

“If we want to keep winning, we have to continue to move together as a team,” Johnson said. “We’ve been doing really well with playing as a team. We know it is important to get these next few wins.”

The Lady Jays host Fergus Falls in their final home game of the season today at 1 p.m. The game is also “Meet the Lady Jays” night for the fans.
