PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: VB teams compete in Subway Classic

MARSHALL — The Trojan volleyball team took 10th place at the Subway Classic Saturday behind a team leading 37 kills by Brooke Henning.

The Trojans won their first game of the day against Red Rock Central 25-16, 25-20. Worthington then took on Wabasso, winning 25-20, 25-22.

In their final game of the day, the Trojans faced MACCRAY, losing 25-22, 25-18.

Henning also had 10 blocks, four aces and 44 digs for the Trojans on the day, while Allie Bruns led the team in blocks with 16 and picked up 14 kills. Tara Svalland was second on the team with 17 kills to go along with her 10 blocks.

Becca Linder was a perfect 49 for 49 on the serve with three aces and also had 17 kills. KC Riley led the team in digs with 53 and Anna Koepsell was second with 47.

Morgan Harberts picked up 11 aces on the day as well as 44 set assists. Leading the team in set assists was Paige Gravenhof with 46.

Worthington hosts Canby Tuesday in their last regular season game of the year.

MCC wins 1, loses 2

MARSHALL — Kristi Bose led the Murray County Central Rebels with 35 kills, 46 digs and eight blocks, while the Rebels went 1-2 on Saturday in the Subway Classic.

The Rebels lost their first game of the day in three sets to Southwest United, 25-23, 24-26, 15-12. MCC then faced Russel-Tyler-Ruthton, losing 28-26, 25-23.

In their last game of the day, the Rebels took on Westbrook-Walnut Grove and won in three sets, 21-25, 25-14, 20-18.

Second on the team in kills and blocks was Lindsey Barrit with 15 kills and six blocks for the Rebels. Jade Giese led the team in set assists with 50 to go along with her 17 digs, while McKenzie Schmitz had 14 kills and 23 set assists.

Taylor Schreier had seven aces and 28 digs, while Ashley Clarke had 18 digs and seven kills. Hannah Schmidt picked up three aces and 38 digs.

MCC plays its last game of the season today at Westbrook-Walnut Grove.

W-WG wins pool play, but falls in gold division

MARSHALL — After winning their pool and advancing to the gold division, the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers lost three straight to end the Subway tournament Saturday.

In their first pool game Friday, the Chargers defeated Martin Luther/G-H-EC 25-16, 25-13. W-WG then took down Renville County West 24-26, 25-17, 15-11 to move on to the gold division.

The Chargers played Springfield in their first game in the division, but lost 25-21, 25-14. Dawson-Boyd then defeated W-WG 25-19, 25-23.

In their last game of the tournament, W-WG faced off with Murray County Central and lost 21-25, 25-14, 20-18.

Dayna Comnick led the Chargers with 38 kills, 42 digs, two blocks and seven aces, while Abby Herding had 23 digs, 98 set assists and five aces.

Alexa Byers was 30 for 31 on the serve with an ace and Paige Erickson added 39 digs, 41 kills and a block in the tournament. Hailey Osland picked up 23 digs, 22 kills and two blocks for the Chargers, while Kelsi Wahl added 14 kills and two blocks.

W-WG hosts MCC today in their last game of the season.

RRC takes 13th at Subway Classic

MARSHALL — Brooke Rasmussen led the Red Rock Central Falcons with 37 digs and six aces on the way to taking 13th in the Subway Classic over the weekend.

In pool play, the Falcons defeated Lac qui Parley Valley 25-13, 25-19, then lost to Central Minnesota Christian 25-17, 25-16. RRC took the 13th seed and moved onto the brown division.

In their first division game, the Falcons fell to Worthington 25-16, 25-20, then played G-F-W and won 25-23, 25-22.

In the consolation championship, RRC took on Renville County West and won 18-25, 25-21, 15-4 to take 13th.

Chloe Arfsten had 26 kills, 30 digs and three aces on the weekend, while Cassandra Erickson added 17 kills, 20 digs and four aces. Katie Larsen had 20 kills, three aces and five blocks to go along with Fern Engen’s five blocks and 17 kills.

Mikaela Smith had 42 set assists, three aces and 18 digs, while Tegan Derickson picked up 37 set assists and four aces.

RCC travels to Mountain Lake Area today for its final game of the regular season.
