ALPENA, S.D. – Two Huron teenagers died in a one-vehicle crash on 92nd Avenue about one-quarter mile south of 220th Street near Alpena on Sunday, Oct. 14.
Emmanuel Martinez, 16, was driving a 2003 Cadillac CTS on 392nd Avenue in Jerauld County when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve. The vehicle entered the east ditch, then slid back across the highway, rolling several times before coming to rest in the west ditch.
Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt, and both were ejected from the vehicle.
Martinez, a former student in Worthington Independent School District 518, died at the scene. Corona was transported to the Huron Hospital by ambulance and later transferred to Sanford in Sioux Falls, where she died of her injuries.
No further information is available at this time.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Jerauld County sheriff’s office; Beadle County sheriff’s office; Sanborn County sheriff’s office; Alpena Fire and Rescue; Game, Fish and Parks Department; and Jerauld County Ambulance Service assisted.
