WORTHINGTON — With their commanding win over Redwood Valley Wednesday, the Trojan football team was able to nab the six seed in the Section 3AAA tournament.
Worthington (3-5) will travel to Montgomery to take on the Tri-City United Titans (6-2) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The Trojans started the season with three straight losses to Fairmont, Jackson County Central and Pipestone Area.
In Week 4, Worthington traveled to Windom to take on the Eagles and came away with a dominant 35-0 victory to claim its first win of the season.
The very next week saw the Trojans narrowly defeat the Canby Lancers 15-13 in Canby for their second straight win.
However, the team’s success was short lived. Luverne came to town in Week 6 and took down Worthington 46-6. Just one week later, the Marshall Tigers handed the Trojans their fifth loss of the season, 49-0
If the Trojans were to defeat the Titans they would play again Saturday against the winner of No. 7 Redwood Valley/No. 2 St. Peter.
In other football news, the Pipestone Area Arrows also received their seeding today, grabbing the No. 4 seed in the Section 3AA tournament despite an overtime loss to Madison, S.D. Thursday.
The Arrows (4-4) will take on No. 5 Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Pipestone. Should the Arrows win the game, they would face the winner of the No. 1/No. 8 match-up between Luverne and St. James.
