On the ballot 2012: Gene Short

Name: Eugene (Gene) Short Office sought: House of Representatives District 22A City in which I reside: Currie

Name: Eugene (Gene) Short

Office sought: House of Representatives District 22A

City in which I reside: Currie

Occupation: Retired-Refrigeration Sales Engineering & Design (30 years); Small business owner-independent grocer (10 years).

What qualifications do you feel you have for the office you seek? Served as a county commissioner for 16 years in Redwood County and two years on the city council in Currie. Leadership developed by serving as president of the Association of Minnesota Counties, and chair of the Southwest Regional Development Commission.

What is your top priority in state government? Unlock the gridlock by finding the key. Bring members to the table working together rather than the stalemate we have seen for so many years.

The idea I have to achieve this priority is to hit the ground running and meet with members prior to session. Start by building bridges, networking, consensus building and plain old respect for fellow members as we move forward.

What do I hope to see accomplished in the state during my term? Restoration of respect by state legislators for local units of government, from those units closest to the people and up. My door will be open to counties, cities, school districts, townships and constituents as we work together to rebuild the trust and relationships we once had.

Additional comments: I intend to initiate a series of town meetings throughout District 22A post-election seeking input, concerns and how we as the people’s representative can once again restore the faith they once experienced.
