WINDOM — The Cottonwood County Historical Society invites the general public to its annual meeting, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 4.
The afternoon begins with a short business meeting followed by speaker Tom Sanders, site manager of the Jeffers Petroglyphs, with his presentation entitled “Petroglyphs and Pipestone.”
The Pipestone National monument celebrated its 75th anniversary this summer, prompting a closer look at the relationships between petroglyphs, pipestone and picture writing. Sanders will explore these relationships through oral traditions of Dakota elders, written historic records and the archaeological record. He has been site manager for 15 years at the Jeffers Petroglyphs, a Minnesota Historical Society historic site.
All members and individuals interested in history are invited. A light afternoon lunch will be served. The Remick Gallery will be open for viewing with the Sue Wipf exhibit, “Minnesota Outdoor Views.”
