MINNEAPOLIS — After a strong season with 15 plus wins, Luverne Cardinals No. 1 singles player Kaitlin Wohnoutka lost twice in the Class A Singles Girls’ State Tennis tournament Thursday at the Read-Sweatt Family Tennis Center to bring an end to her season.
Wohnoutka began her day with an 8 a.m. match against the No. 3 seeded Sofia Terzic from Rochester Lourdes.
Wohnoutka was able to out last Terzic in the first game; claiming a 7-5 victory and a 1-0 lead in games. However, Terzic fought back and took the second game 6-4 to draw even with Wohnoutka.
In the game deciding third game, Terzic finished off Wohnoutka 6-2 to move on to the next round in the championship bracket. Terzic would go on to finish third.
Wohnoutka then went on to face Providence Academy’s Eva Sullivan for the chance to continue on in the consolation bracket. Sullivan lost to Abby Kantor of Foley earlier in the day.
Sullivan was able to over power Wohnoutka in the first match, claiming a 6-0 win. Wohnoutka tried her best to fight back, but Sullivan was too much for her, winning Game 2 6-1 to move on to the next round.
