Republicans earn District 23 wins

JACKSON — The eastern portion of Jackson County helped re-elect veteran state legislators to new district offices Tuesday night, Julie Rosen, a Fairmont Republican who had served as Minnesota District 22's senator for 10 years, won the District 23 seat by garnering 63.97 percent of the vote.

Julie Rosen, a Fairmont Republican who had served as Minnesota District 22's senator for 10 years, won the District 23 seat by garnering 63.97 percent of the vote. She easily outdistanced DFL challenger, a rural Eagle Lake resident, by a 25,824-to-14,508 margin.

Bob Gunther, another Fairmont Republican and a member of the Minnesota House since 1995, made a successful move to the District 23A seat. He picked up 56.5 percent of the vote in defeating DFLer Kevin Labenz of rural Welcome by a 11,544-to-8,868 margin.
