MANKATO — Cameron Jenson qualified for his third regional event with a first-place effort in the 500 freestyle on Saturday at the Minnesota State-Mankato Pool.
Jenson, 14, used 5 minutes, 54.50 seconds to post his qualifying time as the Worthington Stingrays battled the Mankato Marlins. Earlier this season, Jenson advanced to the regional meet in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
“Cameron cut 11.76 seconds of his previous best time,” Stingrays coach Donna Damm said. “He has had a logtime goal to qualify for the regional meet. In the last two meets, he found the prize he has been looking for.”
Logan Waldner, 17, a first-year Stingray, became the seventh Worthington swimmer to reach regional competition by qualifying in the 50 freestyle, where he placed first in 25.99 seconds.
“Even though Logan is new to swimming, he has been a lifeguard at the YMCA and was persuaded by a team member to give it a try,” Damm said.
“Logan has been a great asset to the team thus far and has been improving at the competion level,” Damm added, “not only by being a great role model at practice, but also as a competitor, showing drive and determination in his events in only his second swim meet.”
Other swimmers heading to the regional level in Minneapolis are Tim Skog, Sarah Janssen, Oliver Wolyniec, Madison Neuberger and Bryan Doeden.
