Since Election Day, Republicans in Minnesota and nationally have been discussing what the party’s strategic moves should be going forward. ...

The biggest challenge for Republicans is to change its image of being the angry “Grand Old Party.” That is no more evident than Mitt Romney when he told supporters that President Obama won the election by offering more “gifts” to African-Americans, Hispanics, Asian and young voters.

Romney did well among white voters, especially among white men, but lost by larger margins among blacks, Asians, Hispanics and young voters.

Romney and others can’t just keep blaming nonwhite Americans for losing the presidential race It is time to look in the mirror.

Gov. Bobby Jindal, R-La., was quite clear about Romney’s comments. “I absolutely reject that notion,” he said.

He said Republicans should not abandon conservatism, but do have a lot of work to do. He believes the GOP needs to modernize itself and its operations.

Jindal had some good suggestions for the GOP: stop looking backward, compete for every single vote, reject identity politics, stop being the stupid party, stop insulting the intelligence of voters, quit being the “big” party (i.e.: big business, big banks, big corporate loopholes, etc.) and focus on people, not government.

His suggestions would go a long way in helping the Republican Party change its image of being the party of angry “old men.”
