PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Wohnoutka, Schilling lift LHS to win

LUVERNE – Kaitlin Wohnoutka and McKayla Schilling combined for 52 of Luverne’s points in an 81-34 non-conference girls basketball victory for the Cardinals over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen on Tuesday night.

LUVERNE – Kaitlin Wohnoutka and McKayla Schilling combined for 52 of Luverne’s points in an 81-34 non-conference girls basketball victory for the Cardinals over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen on Tuesday night.

Wohnoutka scored a game-high 30 points and added 10 steals, while Schilling posted 22 points and eight steals.

Megan Petersen totaled 11 points and Tara Sudenga grabbed six rebounds for Luverne, which improved to 1-1.

Edgerton’s Sarah Post totaled 10 points, while Tara DeKam scored eight points.

Luverne travels to Pipestone Area to open the Southwest Conference season Tuesday.

The Flying Dutchmen, who fell to 0-2, host Southwest Christian in a Red Rock Conference clash Tuesday.

Adrian 57, Red Rock Central 39

ADRIAN – Courtney Vaske’s double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds helped the Adrian Dragons remain undefeated with a Red Rock Conference victory over the Red Rock Central Falcons on Thursday.

Rachel Kontz (12 points, five assists) and Elizabeth Thier (10 points) each joined Vaske in double-digit scoring for Adrian, while Jordin Kopplow totaled five points, eight steals and eight assists.

Red Rock Central, which outrebounded Adrian by 44-34 margin, was led by Tegan Derickson’s 14 points and Melanie Kedl’s eight points. Fern Engen led the Falcons with 10 rebounds.

The Dragons committed eight turnovers in the game, while the Falcons turned the ball over 24 times.

Adrian (2-0, 2-0) travels to Tyler to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Saturday, while Red Rock Central (0-2, 0-1) hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Tuesday in Jeffers.

OKABENA – Janessa Peters led a trio of Wolverines in double-digit scoring with 19 points as the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines overcame a five-point halftime deficit by outscoring Southwestern United by 20 points in the second half in a Red Rock Conference girls basketball game Thursday.

Paige Brown’s 16 points and Whitney Klassen’s 10 points helped offset Courtney Place’s game-high 21 points for the Wildcats.

Mikayla Falk added seven points for the Wolverines.

Place added eight rebounds and four steals for SWU, while Sarah Baumgard scored six points and Kailey Wendland totaled five points and eight boards.

Both teams host conference games Tuesday as Mountain Lake Area (1-1, 1-0) takes on Adrian, while Southwestern United (0-2, 0-1) entertains Hills-Beaver Creek.
