PREP BASKETBALL: Adrian moves to 3-0 on the season

TYLER — The Adrian Dragons girls basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season with the help of 12 points by Rachel Kontz in a 54-43 victory over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Saturday.
The Dragons went into halftime with an 11 point and never looked back. R-T-T scored 27 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome its early deficit.
Courtney Vaske and Jordin Kopplow both had nine points for Adrian with Kopplow adding eight rebounds and five steals. Elizabeth Their picked up seven points and five assists and Brooke Wenzel had eight points to round out the Dragons offense.
Justine Possail and Dana Schaefer had nine points apiece for R-T-R in the game. Allison Pochardt had nine rebounds and three blocks, while Kaylie Nielsen had three assists for R-T-R.
Adrian (3-0) heads to Mountain Lake Area Tuesday and R-T-R (2-1) travels to Minneota Tuesday.

Spirit Lake 75, JCC 53
JACKSON — K.J. Veldman dropped 31 points for Spirit Lake as it took down the Jackson County Central Huskies Saturday.
The Huskies trailed 36-29 after at halftime and could not muster enough in the second to make a comeback against Spirit Lake who is No. 4 in Class 3A in Iowa.
Kaylee Burmeister led JCC with 14 points and four steals, while Sarah Brandt had 11 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and four assists. Rachel Johnson added eight points and Julia Schumann had five rebounds along with five assists. Martia Rasche led the team in assists with six.
The second leading scorer for Spirit Lake was Alissa Christoffer who had 15 points in the game.
JCC (3-1) travels to Luverne Friday to face the Cardinals.

Luverne 84, SWU 61
LUVERNE — Brett Heronimus posted 28 points to lead the Luverne Cardinals to a victory over the Southwestern United Wildcats Saturday.
Strong shooting by Luverne was the difference in the game, with the Cardinals outscoring the Wildcats 51-30 at the half.
Both Josh Slieter and Matt Arends had 16 points for the Cardinals, while Blake Ziegler added 12 points.
Andrew Kramer led the Wildcats with 12 points and Brandon Thurk also had 10 points.
Luverne (1-0) play at Southwest Christian Thursday and Southwestern United travels to Hills-Beaver Creek Tuesday, Dec. 11.

SLEEPY EYE —Sam Erickson led the Murray County Central Rebels with 12 points in a loss to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Saturday.
St. Mary’s led by 15 points at halftime and never let up. St. Mary’s also outshot the Rebels 5-0 from behind the arc.
Seth Bass picked up 11 points in the game for MCC, while Cole Bly had 10 rebounds.
The Rebels also lost to Sleepy Eye Friday 61-34.
Sleepy Eye shot 45 percent from the field, while MCC shot just 26 percent.
Sam Erickson had nine points and Seth Bass added six for the Eagles. Aaron Boock led the team in rebounds with four.

TYLER —Nick Rayme had 11 points for the Adrian Dragons in their loss to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Saturday.
R-T-R was able to put up 53 points before halftime on Adrian to take a big lead it would not relinquish.

WABASSO —Taylor Lindaman led the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers with 16 points in a win over Wabasso Saturday.
W-WG was nine for 15 from behind the arc with five different players making a 3-point basket.
Shane Buckman picked up 15 points and eight rebounds for the Chargers, while Aaron Hass had 10. Reed Bakken led the team in rebounds with 13 and also had eight points of his own.
Wabasso was led by 37 points from Neil Eichten.
W-WG (1-0) hosts Windom Area Tuesday.

Fairmont 70, WA 60
WINDOM — Andy Pfeffer had a team-high 21 points for the Windom Area Eagles in a loss to Fairmont Saturday.
Collin Lovell added 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles, while Nathan Remmers had 12 points in the game.
Fairmont outrebounded Windom on the offensive glass and had a 10-2 advantage on second chance points.
Windom (0-1) heads to Westbrook-Walnut Grove Tuesday.
