Obituary: Lars Hellstrom
Lars Gustav Hellstrom, 81, was born on December 30, 1930 in Gotland, Sweden, the son of Johan and Kerstin (Lindquist) Hellstrom.
Lars Gustav Hellstrom, 81, was born on December 30, 1930 in Gotland, Sweden, the son of Johan and Kerstin (Lindquist) Hellstrom. He arrived in New York City on January 31, 1949, sponsored by his uncle, Gus Lindquist. Lars married Alyce Hollem on February 20, 1951 at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington. He served in the 101st Airborne Div. U.S. Army from 1952 - 1954. Lars farmed north of Worthington until his retirement, then they enjoyed spending their winters down south for many years. Lars’ favorite pastime was driving around the countryside, looking at the crops. Lars died on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the Sanford Worthington Medical Center.
Lars is survived by two children, daughter, Ramona (Jim) Marcovich of Fairmont, MN, and son, Kim (Nancy) Hellstrom of rural Worthington, MN; three grandchildren, Sarah (Noah) Hoehn, Lance Hellstrom and Derek (Ashley) Hellstrom; one great-grandchild, Leo Hoehn; brother, Gosta (Marta) Hellstrom of Sweden and sister, Elisabeth (Hans) Soderdahl of Sweden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alyce, sister and brother-in-law, Lilian and Henry Eklund and his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 10, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Richard Ricker officiating. Casket bearers will be Kim Hellstrom, Lance Hellstrom, Derek Hellstrom, Noah Hoehn and Jim Marcovich. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2012, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
