EDGERTON — Three Eagles scored in double figures as the Southwest Christian boys basketball team opened its season with a 69-30 non-conference victory over the Luverne Cardinals on Thursday night.

EDGERTON — Three Eagles scored in double figures as the Southwest Christian boys basketball team opened its season with a 69-30 non-conference victory over the Luverne Cardinals on Thursday night.

Dominic Nibbelink led the Eagles, who finished last season as the state runner-up in Class A, with 20 points and seven assists, while Eric Talsma added 15 points and nine rebounds. Leighton Sampson totaled 14 points and eight boards for Southwest Christian (1-0).

Luverne (1-1) was led by 13 points and eight rebounds from Matt Arends. Brett Heronimus chipped in eight points and Josh Slieter hauled in six rebounds for the Cardinals, who open their Southwest Conference season tonight when they host Jackson County Central.

Southwest Christian returns to action Saturday in a boys-girls doubleheader with the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks in Marshall at Southwest Minnesota State University’s R/A Facility. The boys contest will be a rematch of the last season’s Section 3A final.

EDGERTON — The Edgerton Flying Dutchmen overcame a slim halftime deficit by outscoring the Adrian Dragons by 11 points in the second half to win in Red Rock Conference action.

Wyatt Butson made a second-half 3-pointer to give Edgerton a 55-53 lead and the Flying Dutchmen held on down the stretch for the win.

Brett Ford (four steals) scored a team-best 21 points to lead a quartet of Flying Dutchmen in double-digit scoring. Isaac Heard notched a triple-double of 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, while Austin Mertens (18 points, 12 rebounds) and A.J. Ciaburri (14 points, 15 rebounds) each tallied a double-double.

Nick Reyne and Taylor Recker each had a double-double for Adrian. Reyne (five assists) finished with a game-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Recker totaled 18 points and 15 boards. Brady Lonneman added 13 points and Theron Miller dished out five assists for the Dragons.

Edgerton (1-0, 1-0) hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Dec. 14, while Adrian (0-3, 0-2) hosts Murray County Central on Tuesday.

WESTBROOK — Jeff DeCock and Henry Rogotzke each posted big nights as the Red Rock Central Falcons toppled the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers in Red Rock Conference play.

DeCock scored a game-high 27 points while shooting 14 of 17 at the charity stripe and dishing out seven assists. Rogotzke went for a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds.

Taylor Lindaman led the Chargers with 12 points.

Both teams return to action Tuesday with conference games as Red Rock Central (1-1, 1-0) travels to Fulda and Westbrook-Walnut Grove (1-2, 0-1) hosts Mountain Lake Area.
