MARSHALL — Leighton Sampson drained 22 points and picked up 11 rebounds as the Southwest Christian Eagles used a dominate second half performance to pull away from the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks in a 72-51 win Saturday.
Despite reaching the 1,000 point mark in the game, the Eagles were able to hold Blackjacks guard Nathaniel Huot to just 10 points in the game.
SWC opened up the game on a 15-0 run, but D-B fought its way back to take a 34-31 lead early in the second half. That is when the Eagles hit their stride and started to pull away from the Blackjacks.
Klint Knutson scored 15 points for SWC, while Dominik Nibbelink had 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Joey Lee led Dawson-Boyd with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Southwest Christian (2-0) travels to Ellsworth Tuesday.

GIRLS BAKETBALL
Blue Earth 48, Southwestern United 42
OKABENA — Krista Hassing and Whitney Pirsig combined to score 29 points Saturday afternoon, lifting the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers to a non-conference victory over the Southwestern United Wildcats.
Hassing scored a team-high 16 points for BEA, which led 27-20 at halftime. Pirsig scored 13 points, as the undefeated Buccaneers (4-0) maintained the lead throughout the second half.
Courtney Place led SWU with a game-high 24 points and four rebounds. Alyssa Hendrickson also had four rebounds, while Sarah Baumgard scored seven points for the Wildcats.
SWU (0-4) hosts Martin Luther at 7:30 p.m. today at Round Lake.
