RIVER FOREST, Ill. — Minnesota West wrestlers Greg Gainey and John Bush earned place-finishes during the 23rd Art Kraft Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Triton College.
At 165 pounds, Gainey was the runner up, losing by a 7-3 decision to Rend Lake’s Marciano Ali.
Gainey pinned Waubonsee’s Alex Contini in 6:13 in the quarterfinal round before scoring a 3-0 decision over Grand Valley State’s Austin Geerlings in the semifinals.
At 125, Bush earned a fifth-place finish after receiving an injury default from Lincoln College’s Daniel Rogers.
Bush advanced from the first round with a 14-8 decision against Elmhurst College’s Tyler Espino. He pinned Rogers in 2:02 during the quarterfinals, but was pinned in Waubonsee’s Brandon Walsh in 3:31 in the semifinals.
At 285, Minnesota West’s Josh Valandra was ousted in the consolation fourth round. Jarrell Ferguson (184) and Jadon Evans (149) were each eliminated in the consolation second round. Mike Tanner (141) and Matt Magner (141) were both derailed in the consolation first round.
