PREP WRESTLING: Bobcats win Redwood River Riot

REDWOOD FALLS —Eleven Wabasso/Red Rock Central wrestlers placed among the top eight as the Bobcats won the Redwood River Riot on Saturday.

Despite having no champions, Wabasso/Red Rock Central scored 190 points, distancing itself from runner-up United South Central (153). Worthington placed 15th with 73 points, while Fulda/Murray County Central was 23rd with 37 points and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton ended up 27th with 19 points.

At 106, Worthington’s Hser Eh Pwae posted a 7-4 decision to earn seventh place over Keroven-Murdock-Sunburg’s Caleb Collins.

At 120 pounds, the Trojans’ Anthony Luft, who improved to 11-1 this season, posted a 13-0 major decision over the Bobcats’ Spencer Jenniges (9-3) in the title match. In the tournament, Luft and Jenniges each advanced with a pair of pinfalls and a decision to qualify for the championship bout.

Also at 120, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s Logan Axford placed seventh after recording a 7-3 decision over Redwood Valley’s Dillon Thooft.

At 126, Wabasso/Red Rock Central’s Josh Altermatt (7-5) finished fourth after dropping a 6-0 decision to Keroven-Murdock-Sunburg’s Cody Peterson.

At 132, the Bobcats’ Derek Christians (8-4) was fourth after losing a 10-3 decision to Litchfield’s Tyler Jones.

At 138, Wabasso/Red Rock Central’s T.J. Fulton (10-3) placed fourth after being on the short end of a 9-2 decision against United South Central’s Derek Herman.

At 145, the Bobcats’ Dominic Ourada (8-6) earned sixth place after dropping a 7-4 decision to Tyler Logan, of New Richland-Heartland-Elendale-Geneva.

At 152, Keroven-Murdock-Sunburg’s Zach Carlson denied Wabasso/Red Rock Central’s Tanner Rohlik (9-2) the title by winning 6-0 in the championship bout.

At 160, the Bobcats’ Mitchell Schroepfer (10-2) earned third place after defeating Mankato West’s Xavier Dahlgren by a 6-1 decision.

At 170, the Warriors’ Ben Loosbrock (7-3) ended up sixth after New Richland-Heartland-Elendale-Geneva’s Dillon Parpart won a 7-5 decision.

Also at 170, Wabasso/Red Rock Central’s scored a 13-4 major decision over Worthington’s Blake Schroeder in the seventh-place bout.

At 182, the Bobcats’ Jordan Schroepfer (14-2) needed 56 seconds to pin Marshall’s Campbell Hofstetter in the third-place match.

At 195, Worthington’s Carsen Hagen (10-3) scored a 9-1 major decision to defeat Maple River’s Casey Decker for third place.

Also at 195, Wabasso/Red Rock Central’s Brady Bierl secured a 12-4 major decision to defeat Marshall’s Jared Holland for seventh place.

At 220, Fulda/Murray County Central’s Brian Behrends used a 5-3 decision to take seventh place from BOLD’s Trevor Nissen.

At 285, Wabasso/Red Rock Central’s Alex Schroepfer (10-2) was pinned by Marshall’s Austin Nath in 1:40 during the third-place bout.

Minnesota-Rochester

Christmas Tournament

ROCHESTER — Jackson County Central had two third-place efforts and two fifth-place performances Saturday at the University of Minnesota-Rochester Christmas Tournament.

Luke Norland and Darick Vancura each improved to 11-1 this season after both earned third place in their respective weight classes.

Norland pinned Simley’s Mack Short in 2:29 to claim third place at 152.

Vancura scored a 2-1 decision to edge Albertville St. Michael’s Jordan Joseph to capture third place at 170.

Eliot Jurries (15-2 at 132) and Paden Moore (12-2 at 160) each finished in fifth place for the Huskies.

Jurries defeated Stillwater’s Austin Jordan with a 13-5 major decision, while Moore gained a 6-4 decision against Huron’s Reagan Francom.

Jackson County Central, ranked No. 1 in The Guillotine.com’s latest Class A poll, placed 11th in the team standings with 114½ points. Albertville St. Michael won the tournament title with 256½ points.

Kenyon-Wanamingo

Dave Mauseth Invite

KENYON — Jared Willaby won the 132-pound championship as Windom/Mountain Lake placed eighth among 10 teams Saturday at the Dave Mauseth Invitational.

Willaby used a 3-0 decision to defeat Kenyon-Wanamingo’s Jace Clawiter in the championship bout. Willaby advanced to the title match with pinfalls in two previous rounds.

At 113, Wyatt Stevens placed second after dropping a 5-3 decision to Cannon Falls’ Ryan Epps in the championship match. Stevens advanced through his weight class with a pin and a decision.

At 195, Vince Johnson ended up second after losing a 6-2 decision to Triton’s Lucas Etchason in the title bout. Johnson moved through his weight class with a 4-minute technical fall and a pin.

At 160, Andrew Larson earned a 7-3 decision over Faribault’s Andy Ness in the third-place match.

At 170, Jake Junker edged Faribault’s Josh Palmer in a 3-2 decision to take third place.

At 120, Joe Fischenich placed fourth after dropping a 5-1 decision to Faribault’s Ryan Mullennex.

At 106, Hunter Quiring captured fifth place by pinning teammate Evan Wiens in 2:01.

The Cobras piled up 113½ points to finish eighth in the team standings. Kenyon-Wanamingo won the tournament with 179½ points.

Ridge View Invitational

GALVA, Iowa — Gunnar Klinker, Darin Greenfield, Austin Rohrs, Brytton Kelleher and Bryce Kelleher won championships as Sheldon/South O’Brien placed second Saturday at the Ridge View Invitational.

At 145, Klinker (15-4) was an undefeated 5-0 champion of the round-robin style tournament. He collected three pins and two major decisions along the way.

Greenfield (12-5 at 170) and Rohrs (14-1 at 182) pinned all three of their opponents to claim their weight classes.

At 195, Brytton Kelleher (13-4) had two pins and a major decision to become a champion.

At 220, Bryce Kelleher (14-2) posted three pins and a decision en route to his title victory.

At 126, Josh Gorter (11-3) placed second with one pinfall victory, but was pinned by eventual titlist Chase Goodman, of South Central Calhoun.

At 152, Brian Klein (11-6) finished second with four pins, but lost a 16-9 decision to eventual champion Dylan Bradley, of South Central Calhoun.

At 160, Toby Maggert (13-3) was the runner-up after posting two pins and a decision. He was pinned by eventual titlist Tyler Kutz, of South Central Calhoun.

Sheldon/South O’Brien’s Chaz DeRoucher (3-6 at 120) and Dustin Freeman (11-6 at 132) both placed third, while Jesse Meendering (7-7 at 285) finished fourth.

South Central Calhoun won the team championship 185-158 over Sheldon/South O’Brien.
