PREP WRESTLING: Luverne wins both duals in triangular at Fulda/MCC

FULDA — The Fulda/Murray County Central Rebels wrestling team hosted a triangular with the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Panthers and the Luverne Cardinals on Thursday.

FULDA — The Fulda/Murray County Central Rebels wrestling team hosted a triangular with the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Panthers and the Luverne Cardinals on Thursday.

Luverne won both of its duals with a 45-27 win over the Warriors and a 56-15 win over the Panthers. Fulda/MCC edged T-M-B/W-WG, 42-36.

A forfeit win by Arron Benson in the heavyweight class was the deciding match in the dual between the Fulda/MCC and T-M-B/W-WG with the Warriors winning 42-36.

The Warriors received pins in four other weight classes to help their cause. Clayton Hartle pinned Nash Meyer in 43 seconds at 113, Dalton Keeler pinned Jordan Towne in 3:48 at 138, Dylan Nelson won by fall in 3:38 at 182 over Ozzy Chan, and Brian Behrends needed 12 seconds to defeat Brandon Balsavage at 220.

Other F/MCC wins came from a 10-7 decision at 132 by Ben Blanchette over Caleb Christian, Tanner Nelson defeated Sterling Schwartz with a 5-0 decision at 145 and Ben Loosbrock garnered six points with a forfeit win at 160.

In addition to forfeit wins for Anthony Koch (152) and Austin Peterson (170), the Panthers also recorded four wins via fall. Daulton Carlson needed 4:29 to pin Jon Gehl at 106, Devin Skalek got a pin in 3:56 at 120 over Tate Meyer, Logan Axford pinned Will Gehl in 1:27 at 126 and Tanner Michelson defeated Shay Postma in 1:10 at 195.

In Luverne’s two duals, the Cardinals led from start to finish in each contest. The Cardinals used five pins against the Warriors with Adam Fodness (120) defeating Tate Meyer in 4:46, Solomon Nielsen (1:23) pinning Will Gehl in 1:23, Zack Gillette (152) getting by Tanner Nelson in 3:25, Ethan Johnson (182) recording a fall in 57 seconds over Dylan Nelson and Wyatt Aubert (195) needing 34 seconds to pin Postma.

Other Cardinal wins against the Fulda/MCC came with a 3-2 Jayden Renken decision over Jon Gehl at 106 and forfeit wins for Eli Dooyema (145) and Jake Olson (160).

The Warriors claimed wins at 113 from Hartle over Will Natte in a 8-2 decision, Ben Blanchette won an 18-3 technical fall over Cody Hess, Dalton Keeler won an 11-7 decision over Cyris Halverson at 138, a 10-0 major decision for Ben Loosbrock over Spencer Oeltjenbruns at 170, a Brian Behrends’ pin of DJ Reker in 1:25 at 220 and an Arron Benson pin of Cody Rofshus in 3:43 at heavyweight.

In the dual between Luverne and T-M-B/W-WG, the Cardinals won 11 of the 14 matches.

Renken won by major decision (8-0) over Nash Meyer at 106 and Will Natte pinned Carlson in 1:59 at 113 before the Panthers’ Axford pinned Fodness in 5:02 at 120.

After Luverne’s Nielson pinned Skalek in 2:50 at 126, the Panthers earned a fall at 132 when Christian pinned Hess in 1:10.

Luverne’s win the rest of way came from Halverson (138) with a 10-6 decision over Jordan Towne, Dooyema (145) pinning Schwartz in 43 seconds, Jakob Olson (160) winning by pin in 1:10 over Brennon Cooley, Oeltjenbruns (170) earning a 8-2 decision over Austin Peterson, Aubert (182) claiming a 12-0 major decision with Michelson, Brent Thompson (195) pinning Balsavage in 1:18, Reker (220) pinning Jake Peterson in 2:47 and a Rofshus win forfeit at heavyweight.

T-M-B/W-WG’s other win was at 152 when Anthony Koch won a 6-5 decision with Gillette.

Wabasso/RRC Triangualar

WABASSO — The Wabasso/Red Rock Central wrestling team won a triangular meet with dual victories against New Ulm (51-10) and Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial (36-22).

The Bobcats, ranked fourth in Class A in the latest poll, according to The Guillotine.com, took nine bouts against New Ulm.

Six Wabasso/Red Rock Central wrestlers had pinfalls, including Mitchell Fulton (1:04 at 106), Brakken Bierl (1:17 at 113), Tanner Rohlik (1:14 at 152), Mitchell Schroepfer (0:35 at 160), Blake Altermatt (1:04 at 170) and Jared Welch (0:39 at 195).

Other victories for the Bobcats came from Justin Frank (forfeit at 120), Josh Mattison (forfeit at 138) and Dominic Ourada (6-2 decision at 145).

Against Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial, Wabasso/Red Rock Central won eight matches.

Fulton moved up to 112, where he collected a pin in 3:50. Derek Christians recorded a 6-1 decision at 132, Ourada posted a 7-0 shutout at 145, Rohlik won a 6-2 decision at 152, Mitchell Schroepfer won by pinfall in 1:22 at 160, Altermatt used a third-period escape to win 1-0 at 170, Jordan Schroepfer secure a pin in 2:38 at 195 and Cody Coulter won by forfeit at 285.

Minneota 37,

Windom/Mount. Lake 25

MINNEOTA — Aaron Flatgard and Vince Johnson won with pinfalls as Windom/Mountain Lake dropped a dual meet at Minneota on Thursday.

At 195, Flatgard used 2 minutes, 36 seconds to pin William Flood. At 220, Johnson needed only 26 seconds to pin Jameson Hettling.

The Cobras added victories from Wyatt Stevens (8-3 decision at 113), Joe Fischenich (3-0 decision at 126), Jared Willaby (8-4 decision at 132) and Ben Matter (15-3 major decision at 152).
