WINDOM — Travis Janssen and Devin Nielsen both notched five points for the Windom Area boys hockey team in an 11-1 win over the Fairmont Cardinals Friday.
The Eagles sent 47 pucks at Cardinal goalie Colton Cunning, while Tyler McGowan faced just 24 shots for WA.
Janssen (three goals, two assists) opened up the scoring for Windom Area just 14 seconds into the first period on an unassisted shot. Zach Bartosh made it 2-0 less than a minute later on a feed from Nielsen.
The Eagles went up 3-0 just six second after the Bartosh goal when Stuart Schumacher and Mitchell Macek got the puck to Nielsen for his first goal of the game.
Another Janssen goal 5 minutes later made it 4-0 in favor of the Eagles. The Cardinals got on the board with a goal by Brock Johnson 7:21 into the period to cut the lead to three.
Nielsen and Zach Ignaszewski scored the final two goals in the period to make it 6-1 after the first.
Windom Area netted three more goals in the second to increase its lead to eight heading into the third. Eric Haberman, Schmacher and Janssen (power-play) all scored in the period.
The Eagles scored twice more in the final frame, both coming in the first 2 minutes and two seconds of the period. Zach Steen and Ryan Evers got the goals for WA in the last period.
Windom Area (6-1, 3-1) heads to Waseca to play in the Waseca Invitational on Dec. 27.
