PREP BASKETBALL: Panthers take 2nd at home tournament

TRACY — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers took second place in their girls home basketball tourmanent Saturday after falling 71-45 to Wabasso in the championship.

The Panthers trailed by seven heading into intermission, but were outscored 41-22 in the second to allow Wabasso to take the win. Morgan Frank scored all eight of her points in the second half to help seal the win for Wabasso.

Cassie Hook led the Panthers with a game-high 16 points in the championship game, while draining three of T-M-B’s four 3-point shots. Kelli Soupir was second on the team with nine points, while Nichy Iverson picked up six points and Gabbie Gervais had four points.

Wabasso was led by Larissa Rohlik and Kaci Rothmeier, who had 11 and 10 points respectively.

T-M-B (3-5) hosts MACCRAY Jan. 3 in Tracy.

Dragons claim third over Falcons

TRACY — Courtney Vaske grabbed a game-high 22 points to power the Adrian Dragons past the Red Rock Central Falcons 71-56 to claim third place at the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton tournament Saturday.

The Dragons jumped out to a 44-32 halftime lead on the back of 11 first-half points from Brooke Wenzel. Both teams scoring dropped off in the second half, except for Vaske who netted 15 of her 22 points in the second.

Second on the team in scoring for the Dragons was Wenzel with 13, while Elizabeth Their and Rachel Kontz had 10 and nine points respectively.

Leading scorer for the Falcons was Brooke Rasmussen who dropped 21 points, 15 of them coming in the first. Both Katie Larsen and Olivia Bitner grabbed nine points in the game.

The Dragons (7-2) take on the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots Jan. 3 in Hills, while the Falcons (0-8) head to Mountain Lake Area Jan. 8.

SIOUX CENTER — Leighton Sampson scored a game-high 21 points for the Southwest Christian Eagles Saturday in a win over United Christian in a non-conference boys basketball game.

The Eagles led by just three at halftime, but they were able to push the lead to eight by the end of the game.

Sampson also picked up six rebounds for SWC, while Klint Knutson scored 15 points. Dominic Nibbelink had 12 points for the Eagles to go along with four assists and three steals. Eric Talsma was the final SWC player in double-digits with 11 points in the game.

Logan Schoonoven led United Christian with 20 points.

SWC (5-1) hosts the Southwestern United Wildcats Jan. 4 in Edgerton.
