MOUNTAIN LAKE — Carter Kirk picked up his second double-double (23 points, 14 rebounds) of the Mountain Lake Area Holiday Tournament for the Moutain Lake Area Wolverines in a 61-53 boys basketball victory over the Ellsworth Panthers Friday to claim the championship title.
The Wolverines led by just three points heading into halftime, but used a 34 point second half to power past the Panthers. MLA outrebounded Ellsworth 36-21 in the game.
Cody Klassen was second in scoring for the Wolverines with 16 points.
The Panthers were led by Mitch Leuthold, who had 16 points, along with Daniel and Johnathon Kramer who both had 11 points apiece.
In the third place game of the Mountain Lake Area Holiday Tournament, Lakeview defeated Truman/Martin Luther 81-74.
MLA (4-2) travels to Edgerton to take on the Flying Dutchmen, while Ellsworth (3-5) heads to Fulda.

WINDOM — Collin Lovell had a game-high 16 points for the Windom Area Eagles in a first round win over the Fulda Raiders in the Windom Area Holiday Tournament Friday.
The Eagles held a 16 point halftime lead and held the Raiders to just 27 points in the second to push the margin to 21 by the end of the game.
Jacob Gotto added 15 points for Windom Area in the win, while Bryce Bever put up 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Raiders were led by Andy Oakland who had 14 points in the game to go along with 11 points by Todd Peterson.
Martin County West won the other first round game 82-62 over Cleveland.
The Eagles will face Martin County West in the championship game today, while the Raiders will face Cleveland in the third place game.

BLUE EARTH — Jackson County Central improved to 5-3 overall after defeating host Blue Earth Area in the championship of the Blue Earth Area Holiday Tournament.
The Huskies used defense to build a 31-16 lead after 18 minutes. The Buccaneers were outscored 37-19 after halftime.
“We defended really well and we shut down a couple of better players, including Luke Munson who is one of (Blue Earth Area’s) bigger players,” JCC head coach Trent Sukalski. “We just switched our defenses really well and made it a fullcourt game.”
Jon Harmening had 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Huskies. Taylor Christopher added 11 points and five assists, while Brady Place scored 10 points and Nolan Hoenstein chipped in eight points and nine rebounds.

Marshall 79, T-M-B 42
MARSHALL — Parker Lanoue led the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers with 12 points in a loss to the Marshall Tigers in the Marshall Holiday Tournament Friday.
The Tigers had a 23-point advantage heading into halftime and never looked back.
Brian Fultz picked up three assists and five points, while Jordan Lanoue had six points.
Marshall was led by Derek Buysse and Tanner Bukowski, who both had 15 points for the Tigers.
T-M-B (2-5) travels to play MACCRAY on Friday.
