TROJAN GIRLS HOCKEY: WHS girls hockey falls to Watertown, will play for 7th place today in Blaine

BLAINE — Despite a pair of goals by Allison Kremer, the Worthington Trojan girls hockey team fell to Watertown in the second round of the Schwan Cup Tournament Friday.

BLAINE — Despite a pair of goals by Allison Kremer, the Worthington Trojan girls hockey team fell to Watertown in the second round of the Schwan Cup Tournament Friday.

Watertown out shot Worthington 30-19 with Trojan goalie Amanda Bristow making 13 saves and Watertown goalie Stacey Dunbar stopping 27 shots.

Kremer started the scoring for Worthington 5 minutes, 4 seconds into the first period on a pass from Morgan Johnson to give the Trojans the lead. However, Watertown’s Kaitlyn Muhl put the puck past Bristow with 8:15 left in the period to tie it at one goal apiece.

Watertown controlled the second period, scoring two unanswered goals, one by Tara Hamann and the other by Heather Mullin to take a 3-1 lead.

Hamann scored again just 44 seconds into the third to give Watertown a comfortable three goal cushion early in the final frame. But Kremer was able to pick up her second goal of the game halfway through the period to pull the Trojans within two.

Watertown scored the next two goals to take a 6-2 lead, with Hamann and Muhl both adding their second goals of the game.

Worthington was able to score one more goal before the end of the period when Betsy Thompson took a pass from Kremer and Aleanna Heig and put it behind Dunbar to make it 6-3.

With the loss, the Trojans move will play the Marshall Tigers in the seventh place game today.

Luverne 3

BLAINE — North Metro claimed a two-goal victory over Luverne in the Schwan Cup Tournament Friday.

Monique Aanenson scored two goals for Luverne, while Ellen Dahl scored once. Mariah Aukes, Katie Eeten, Makayla Sterrett and Briana Erickson were each credited with an assist for the Cardinals.

Kennedy Gonnerman had 27 saves for Luverne.

Faribault 9,

Windom Area 0

WASECA — Faribault scored multiple goals in each period Friday, claiming a shutout victory over Windom Area in the Waseca tournament.

Faribault outshot Windom Area 52-9. Cady Walker had a hat trick for Faribault.
