LAKE CRYSTAL — Worthington made its final surge with about 6 minutes left as the Trojans secured a 74-69 non-conference basketball win at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Thursday.
“We had a nice run early in the second half to extend our halftime lead (37-26),” Worthington head coach Ron Vorwald said. “But to (Wellcome Memorial’s) credit, they clawed their way back into the came by executing on offense and by catching us relaxing on defense.”
The Knights erased the Trojans’ double-digit lead down to a single point before Worthington responded with a run of its own as 6 minutes remained.
Morgan Traylor led WHS with team highs in points (25) and rebounds (10). Will Dudley collected 15 points and eight rebounds, while Marcus Potter added 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Spencer Grafing scored 10 points as the Trojans improved to 6-2 overall.
Lucas Hesser led Wellcome Memorial with 19 points. Michael Coates contributed 16 points and Nick Thul chipped in 12 more.
Worthington plays a non-conference game at Dawson-Boyd at 3 p.m. Saturday.
