STINGRAYS SWIMMING: Dorcey, Hockel qualify for regional meets

WORTHINGTON — Andrew Dorcey and Morgan Hockel swam regional-qualifying times during the Worthington Stingrays home meet against Austin, Spirit Lake and LeMars on Saturday.

Dorcey, 8, a first-year swimmer for Worthington, qualified for the regional meet individually in both the 25 and the 50 freestyle events.

He swam the 25 freestyle in 16.98 for a first-place finish before taking first in the 50 freestyle in 42.04.

Hockel, 14, a second-year Stingray from Windom, ended up second in the 50 freestyle, but her time of 29.88 landed her a regional spot.

Twenty-nine of 51 Stingrays set new personal bests during the meet.

Worthington’s final regular season meet is Saturday, when the Stingrays host Mankato.
