PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Panthers defeat Wildcats

ELLSWORTH — Bridget Kramer picked up 21 points and five assists for the Ellsworth Panthers in a 53-45 win over the Southwestern United Wildcats in a Red Rock Conference girls’ basketball game Thursday.

ELLSWORTH — Bridget Kramer picked up 21 points and five assists for the Ellsworth Panthers in a 53-45 win over the Southwestern United Wildcats in a Red Rock Conference girls’ basketball game Thursday.

The Wildcats took a 24-22 lead into halftime thanks to 15 points from Courtney Place in the first half. However, the Panthers defense was able to shut down Place in the second and take better care of the ball to get the win.

Alexa Huisman was second on the team in scoring for the Panthers with 15 points, while Amber Walkowaik added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Place led the Wildcats with 19 points and Sarah Baumgard had 11 points.

Ellsworth (8-7, 4-4) hosts the Murray County Central Rebels Saturday, while Southwestern United (4-9, 3-4) heads to Red Rock Central to take on the Falcons Saturday.

EDGERTON — Kelley Tinklenberg had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead a well-balanced offensive attack by the Southwest Christian Eagles in a victory over the Murray County Central Rebels Thursday.

The Rebels led by six at intermission, but the Eagles were able to make a comeback in the second using an 18-2 run to start the half.

Amber Pater was second on the team in scoring with 12 points for the Eagles, while Hannah Van Dyke picked up 11 points, six assists and four steals. Savannah Tinklenberg had nine points and six rebounds to go along with eight points and six rebounds by Morgan Van Hulzen.

Jade Giese scored 22 points for the Rebels, while Jenna Ness had 12 points and four assists. Haley Bose and Morgan Behrends both had double-doubles with Bose scoring 10 points to go along with 10 rebounds and Behrends picking up 10 points and 12 rebounds in the game.

The Eagles (10-4, 7-0) host Westbrook-Walnut Grove Saturday and the Rebels (5-7, 4-5) play at Ellsworth Saturday.

WESTBROOK — Despite committing 22 turnovers, the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers were able to take down the Red Rock Central Falcons Thursday.

The Chargers led by eight after the first half and outscored the Falcons 27-18 in the second to claim the win.

Abby Herding led W-WG with 12 points and five steals, while Elizabeth Woelber had 11 points, three steals and three assists. Dayna Comnick picked up eight points to go along with eight points and 14 rebounds by Paige Erickson. Kelsi Wahl rounded out the scoring with 12 points.

Melanie Kedl was the leading scorer for the Falcons with 12 points and 11 rebounds to go along with seven points and 11 rebounds by Rachel Kedl.

The Chargers (6-8, 5-4) head to Edgerton to take on the Eagles of Southwest Christian, while the Falcons (2-11, 1-6) host the Wildcats of Southwestern United on Saturday.

EDGERTON — Tanner Gunnink dropped 27 points and picked up 10 rebounds in a 14-point win for the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen over the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots Thursday.

The Dutchmen took a 43-28 lead into halftime, but allowed the Patriots to outscore them 33-32 in the second.

Breanna Nelson had 18 points, seven assists and five steals, while Tara DeKam had 11 points and nine rebounds. Jessica Menning added nine points and nine rebounds to go along with five assists by Ciara Everett and Marisa Fey.

The Patriots were led by Taylor Wingert with 16 points and six rebounds to go along with 15 points by Megan Westrum. Megan Leuthold added 11 points, while Paige Leuthold had eight points, eight assists and three steals.

Edgerton (2-10, 2-7) travels to Fulda Saturday and Hills-Beaver Creek (5-8, 2-6) heads to Mountain Lake Area Saturday.

Luverne 60, JCC 46

JACKSON — Kaitlin Wohnoutka scored 22 points to lead the Luverne Cardinals to a win over the Jackson County Central Huskies Thursday.

The Cardinals led by eight after the first half and went 13 of 14 from the free throw line in the second to hold off the Huskies.

Morgan Haugen rounded out the double-digit scorers for Luverne with 12 points.

Kaylee Burmiester led Jackson County Central in scoring with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Lydia Brandt had 13 points and seven rebounds. Marita Rasche added eight rebounds and three assists in the game.

The Cardinals (7-8, 4-3) travel to Fairmont Saturday, while the Huskies (8-11, 2-6) host Marshall Tuesday.

JACKSON — Jon Harmening scored 23 points and came up with 16 rebounds to power the Jackson County Central Huskies past the Luverne Cardinals Thursday.

The Cardinals took a six-point lead into halftime, but the Huskies attacked the basket and played stronger defense in the second to make the comeback.

Taylor Christopher had 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the game for the Huskies, while Nolan Hohenstein added six points and six rebounds.

The Cardinals were led by Brett Heronimus, who scored 22 points in the game along with seven rebounds. Matt Arends was second on the team in scoring with 15 points with all of his points coming from behind the arc. Josh Slieter led the team in rebounds with 10, while picking up seven points.

JCC (9-6, 3-4) plays at Marshall Tuesday, while Luverne (9-5, 5-2) hosts the Adrian Dragons Monday.
