REDWOOD FALLS — Austin Maxwell and Chaz Smedsrud scored first-period goals as Luverne defeated Redwood Valley 2-0 in a Southwest Conference hockey game Thursday.
Maxwell handed the Cardinals a 1-0 lead at the 14:27 mark with a tally that was set up by Matthew Sterrett.
At the 10:41 mark, Smedsrud buried the puck in the net after receiving a pass from Gunnar Olson through Logan Norman.
Luverne improved to 12-2-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the SWC. Redwood Valley is 2-8 overall and 1-5 in league play.
